Join us in the beautiful Celebration Garden at San Francisco Botanical Garden for a family-friendly concert by Latin Grammy Award-winning artist, author, and educator, MISTER G (Ben Gundersheimer).

Enjoy book signing and activities about the important role of pollinators led by the Gardens' youth educators.

After the concert, make sure to visit the new Storybook Stroll in the Children’s Garden featuring Señorita Mariposa by MISTER G.

Japanese Tea Garden Celebrates 130th Anniversary

January 27 is the 130th anniversary of the Midwinter Fair of 1894 where the Japanese Tea Garden welcomed visitors from around the country. At that time, the Japanese Tea Garden was known as the Japanese Village and Tea Garden.

The Conservatory of Flowers will be closed from January 10, 2024 to January 24, 2024 for annual maintenance.

Magnificent Magnolias at the Botanical Garden Mid-January through March

The very first flowers are out on the cup and saucer magnolia (M. campbellii) near the Great Meadow which is almost always the earliest bloomer. The season officially starts January 12 and the trees are loaded with healthy flower buds--looking to be another wonderful season with peak bloom expected in February. January Monthly Plant Sale: Winter Bloomers

Saturday and Sunday, January 13-14, 10am-4pm

This month's plant sale at the Botanical Garden Plant Shop will include Winter Bloomers like Gambelia, Ribes, Correa, Hebes, Hardenbergia, hardy Geraniums, Hellebores, Salvias, Abutilons and ferns like Aspleniums and Platyceriums.

Little Ones Story Time

Tuesday, January 16, 10:30-11am

Children ages 0-4 and their caregivers are invited to story time in the library. This month, we’re sharing books about one of our favorite animals—owls! Familiar finger plays and songs will round out the program. Feel free to stay and play or read books after the story time.

Join us for a Lunar Celebration on Sunday, February 11. Participants of all ages can try their hand at traditional calligraphy, origami, and auspicious crafts! 9th Ave Entrance to Golden Gate Park - Starting Construction in January

Construction will begin in January on the 9th Avenue and Lincoln Way entrance into Golden Gate Park.

The contractor will determine sequencing and phasing in coordination with RPD and MTA. The intention is to minimize disturbance during construction for those traveling into and out of the park. There will always be vehicular and pedestrian access into and out of the park via 9th Avenue, though at times street traffic will be routed into fewer lanes and sidewalk traffic will be detoured across the street. Service access to the County Fair Building will remain open.

Pavers surround the idyllic Fountain Plaza off the Great Meadow at the Botanical Garden, which is easily accessible from the main entrance, and offers a pleasant location for gathering with friends and family. Please send your inquiries and confirm your interest by Thursday, February 29 to be included in this year's engraving set for April 2024.
