Spring Concert a big hit
The annual Spring Concert and Art Showcase was a resounding success Friday night.
The event featured songs sung by the elementary school, the high school worship arts band performing and the Multi-Language Learners Club reading eight scriptures in 11 different languages.
There was also a tremendous display of art produced by all three levels of the school, featuring drawings, paintings, graphic design, dioaramas and pottery.
The MLL also created displays for the different countries represented in our student body, featuring information about the countries and artifacts and food provided by families.
A special shoutout to Lisa Mesler, who coordinated the event, and Valerie Abeshima, who directed the musical portion.

Thank you to our international hosts
This past weekend, 35 students from Japan visited our campus and community, staying in houses of community members.
It was a big success as we were blessed with comfortable weather, peaceful visits and a chance to showcase our country and faith to our international visitors.
Thank you to all families who graciously opened their homes to our guests.

Three golfers earn state berths
The Sound Christian Academy golf program continues to shine in just its second year of existence, as three golfers earned state tournament berths.
The Class 2B/1B State Championships will take place Tuesday and Wednesday at Tumwater Valley Golf Club.
Ninth grader Makenna Kelpman will be making a second trip to the state tournament, after placing third last year. She won the district title with a score of 82, marking seven consecutive victories on the season.
On the boys side, Michael Kessel is also making a return trip to state. A year ago, he finished 29th and last week took fifth at the district tournament.
Joining Kessel is Daniel Aubrey, who is headed to state for the first time. He finished second at the district tournament, firing an 82.

Henderson wins state athlete of the week award
We know that Emara Henderson is the bee's knees and now the rest of the state is taking notice.
The junior was named the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Athlete of the Week after her dominating performance at the SeaTac League Championship Meet two weeks ago.
Henderson set a new personal best mark in the discus, throwing it 115 feet, 3 inches to win the league title. That was a new PR of 13 feet! She will compete in the discus and the shot put at the state meet this week.

Thornton, Young and Abeshima moving on
Trisha Thornton, Kim Young and Valerie Abeshima will all be departing SCA this summer.
Trisha, who has worked at SCA for 16 years, has taught first, second and fourth grades, has been a lead teacher, an assistant dean of elementary curriculum and instruction, and an assistant dean of elementary. Trisha has taken a job at a new school and we will dearly miss her.
Kim, who is wrapping up her second stint on our campus as the Student Center Manager, is moving back to North Carolina to be with family. She previously served as the food facilities supervisor at Tacoma Baptist from 2014-18. Her delicious cooking will certainly be missed by students and staff alike, but more importantly her servant leadership will leave a big hole on our campus.
Valerie, who has worked at SCA for four years as the elementary music teacher, is resigning to spend time with family. She has been a steady presence in our elementary school and will be missed.
It is an exciting time of change at SCA as we will be filling all three of these positions, as well as hiring and expanding our elementary classroom options. Please see all openings here and pass the word along to anyone who may be looking to work at the best Christian school in Tacoma.
