A Taste of Culture this Hispanic Heritage Month

Check out these cultural happenings, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month (see the full calendar of HHM events here), all providing more great (and tasty!) reasons to be on campus this fall, courtesy of the Faculty Student Association (FSA):

Chef Reyes' menu includes pollo horneado, garbanzo guisadas, arroz amarillo, plantanos fritos and ensalada de aguacate y tomate.

Wednesday, October 13, East and West Side Dine-In (4 to 7 pm for East and 5 to 8 pm for West)
Partake in an Authentic Peruvian Dinner

Enjoy delicious cuisine including Peruvian Roasted Chicken with fresh lime, Latin spices and spicy green herb sauce, Vegetable Paella with short grain saffron rice, cremini mushrooms, roasted tomatoes and mixed peppers, Papa a la Huancaina layered with cotija cheese, cream and fresh cilantro.

Return of the Champions

The Face Mask Champion Program continues to help us ensure we keep our campus community safe by complying with critical mask-wearing protocols. Stony Brook Medicine champions are reminding employees to wear their masks over their noses (not just covering their mouths), and to continue to socially distance while in public spaces such as the cafeteria, Hospital Starbucks and in break rooms.

West Campus face mask champions are trained volunteers who receive special masks and cards to gently remind campus community members of mask-wearing guidance. Director of Healthier U Cathrine Duffy - cathrine.duffy@stonybrook.edu - will provide an optional Zoom call for champions with post-training questions, and continues to welcome more volunteers to ‘champion’ the cause on West Campus.

Where to Get Those First (and Second) Shots in the Arm

We’re continuing to make vaccine PODs available across campus. That includes first and second vaccines, as well as boosters for eligible employees. We sent a Coronavirus Update out on Tuesday, October 5, explaining second shot requirements/deadlines for employees covered by the New York State Department of Health vaccine mandate. If you have any questions about the mandate, please contact Human Resources at 631-444-4770 or send an email to sbuhhr@stonybrookmedicine.edu. Thanks to all who are helping keep our campus safe and open for in-person learning by following these and other SBU protocols, such as testing and mask wearing.
