Closing the Gap in Autism Screening and Care Through Interdisciplinary Innovation
A new Duke‑developed screening tool could help identify signs of autism in children much earlier than current methods, potentially improving access to life‑changing early interventions. Using a smartphone app and artificial intelligence, researchers can detect behavioral patterns that traditional screenings often miss. The technology has shown strong accuracy in both clinical and home settings and is now moving toward FDA review. If approved, it could give pediatricians a more objective, accessible way to diagnose autism and connect families to care sooner.
