Alumni Spotlight:

David Alford

You may recognize David Alford for his long-running role as Bucky Dawes on the hit television show, Nashville, or for his role in the Broadway play Little Foxes, but there is much more to Alford than meets the eye.
Alford grew up on his family farm in Adams, Tennessee, where he became an active participant in the Robertson County 4-H Club. During his time in 4-H, Alford participated in public speaking, leadership and agricultural projects, but found some of his biggest successes during his time with The Red River Boys competing in talent projects.

TN 4-H All Stars Turns 70!

The Tennessee 4-H All Stars program is celebrating 70 years!

The 4-H All Stars is the second level in Tennessee 4-H recognition. To qualify for All Stars, 4-H’ers may apply for membership after finishing the eighth grade in 4-H Honor Club. Membership in All Stars is based on service, which is the All Star motto. Being accepted as a member of All Stars is the highest recognition that a Tennessee 4-H’er can achieve.

Ultimately, the goal of All Stars is to contribute to positive youth development through service to the 4-H program.

Recap: 2018 Alumni Meeting

On Saturday, Feb. 24, over 100 4-H alumni gathered in Lebanon at the Wilson County Expo Center for the third Annual 4-H Alumni and Friends Meeting.
With entertainment from Dr. Jim Byford, a keynote speech from Rutherford County Commissioner Pettus Read and award presentations, a good time was had by all. Each winter, 4-H alumni from around the state meet up to talk about the past year, honor those with exemplary service and pay homage to Tennessee 4-H.
This year, Steve Sutton was recognized with the Alumni Leadership Award and Rebekah Lenley was honored with the Outstanding Alumni Award.
“Long before I could have imagined, 4-H laid the groundwork in my life for unforeseen personal growth and opportunities to serve,” says Lenley. “I am fortunate in my current career because of the invaluable skills I learned through 4-H such as record keeping, public speaking and service to others. I only hope through my volunteer efforts I might be able to aid the 4-H program in continuing its mission of developing youth leaders for tomorrow.”
This year’s Annual Meeting for alumni was the largest gathering since the meet up began in 2016.
