Key Banner Updates for Fall 2026 |
As part of the Encompass initiative to modernize campus technology, several updates are coming that will impact how you manage courses, access information, and communicate with students.
Below are the seven (7) most important things for you as faculty to know to prepare for the Fall:
1. Banner Becomes the System of Record |
Beginning Fall 2026, the Banner Student Information System (SIS) will serve as the university’s system of record, with Experience replacing myOleMiss as the primary academic portal.
Summer 2026 tasks (such as submitting grades) for all courses through the August intersession will still be completed in myOleMiss ahead of the full transition.
Fall 2026 courses will be automatically populated in Blackboard, and manual course enablement will no longer be required. Instructors will retain control over when the course is made available to students. We are currently finalizing the integration between Banner and Blackboard, and the Faculty Technology Development Center (FTDC) will share additional details as they become available.
For questions, contact blackboard@olemiss.edu.
3. Managing Class Rosters in Experience |
For Fall 2026, class rosters will be available in Experience through the Faculty Self-Service card, with real-time updates from Banner.
Within the Faculty Self-Service card:
-
Select Class List from the Rosters section
- Next, select the appropriate Term (if prompted)
- Choose a course to review by selecting Enrollment Count.
- You will then be able to access Course Information, Enrollment Counts, Class List, and the Wait List (if applicable).
-
You can also Print the roster or Export it to Excel.
💡 Tip: Select Print to download a roster with student photos.
4. Textbook Process (Barnes & Noble) |
The textbook adoption process with Barnes & Noble is not changing.
Now that the Banner integration is finalized, you can submit course materials for the Fall 2026 term via Barnes and Noble's Adoption Insights Portal (AIP).
To find the AIP link, go to Experience, select the Faculty Self-Service card, and select Course Management Materials under the Faculty Tools section.
You can also search for "Course Materials Management" in myOleMiss.
5. Changes to Student Communication |
With the transition to new systems, faculty will no longer be able to text students directly. However, you can continue to communicate through Blackboard, and Banner also supports student emailing. More details on emailing students through Banner will be communicated at a later date.
Note: The university is actively exploring solutions to restore texting capabilities in the future.
6. Preparing for Faculty Success |
Faculty Success, the university’s new system for faculty activity reporting, is on the way for fall 2026, bringing new tools along with training and resources to support every step.
Activity reporting in the system will kick off in December 2026. Training sessions will be available throughout the fall semester, along with information resources to support the transition.
7. Updates for Faculty Advisors |
Degree Works (degree audit functionality) and
CRM Advise (student success system) functionality will become available for orientation sessions. New Experience cards are coming to provide direct access to these tools, and if you missed the training sessions during the week of April 27, more opportunities will be available.
Transfer Equivalency tools are also available. To learn more, we encourage you to watch the latest Banner Zoom Office Hours session.
