Steve Kearney is the winner of this beautiful, handmade quilt which was quilted and donated to the Humane Society by Karen Pippin Hodson.
The quilt was displayed and admired for 6 months prior to the drawing and the raffle raised $836.00 for the Humane Society!
A HUGE thank you to Karen Pippin Hodson for sharing her talent with us and for being so generous to the Franklin County Humane Society.
MEOWY CHRISTMAS AND A YAPPY NEW YEAR
We would once again like to express our sincere gratitude to all of the people who have helped us in our mission this past year.  Thanks to all of our donors, supporters and volunteers.  Thank you to our fosters, transporters and fundraisers.  Each of you plays an important roll in the care and well being  of the homeless pets at the shelter and we could not function without you.
So here's wishing each and every one of you happy, happy holidays and a glorious New Year!
Where Are They Now?
It is a sad and frustrating reality that some dogs get overlooked in a shelter time and time again.  Some dogs just don't "show well" or they are older or they simply aren't as adoptable due to x, y or z.  This was the case with Zeus.
Zeus came to us in October of 2014 from a home with other dogs, cats and children.  He was well socialized and got along well with people but the owners were moving and so they owner surrendered him to us.
At 5 yrs old, Zeus wasn't an old dog but he was past his youth.  He was a large breed black dog, 2 more strikes, and to top it off, he had a fierce bark.  The bark was what turned people off the most.  When someone would approach his kennel he would bark and sounded vicious.  No matter how much we assured people of his gentleness, they would turn away without considering him.
Zeus stayed here for an entire year.  Surely someone out there was looking for a sweet dog with a loud bark. We just had to be patient.  Sure enough, one day a gentleman came in looking to adopt a dog that would bark, and bark loudly if someone or something approached.  He lived on many acres of land out in the country and his "alarm" dog had become old and didn't hear well.
We talked at length because we don't adopt our pets to be "watch" dogs.  We want our pets to have a home and a family and plenty of love and attention. During our conversation it became clear that Zeus would have all of that plus a younger Jack Russell to play with.
The picture above is of Zeus with his adopter about to leave the shelter for good.  After waiting an entire year, Zeus finally had his forever home.  We have been told that he has adjusted very well, gets along well with both other dogs and loves patrolling the property.  Our big, black, middle aged, vicious sounding dog finally got his forever home.....and in time for Christmas!
