Message from the Interim Director of Extension
Road Report #17: Last week, I was fortunate to have a couple of days in Yuma to attend the Southwest Ag Summit. The summit was extremely impressive. The agenda was filled with a who’s who of UA Extension professionals giving timely and informative seminars on subjects including IPM, irrigation, food safety, and cotton management, to name a few. Many sessions were standing room only – with one I know of spilling into the hallway. It was great to see so many people from Arizona Extension sharing and leading these seminars. I also enjoyed meeting with industry leaders who were not shy to let me know their needs. However, they were equally enthusiastic about letting me know how much they appreciate those working to support Arizona agriculture today. As I have stated many times before – job well done!

Southwest Vegetation Management News
Restoration is hard. Why not get someone to do it for you? Studies have suggested that animal dispersers can be leveraged to move around and plant seeds for you! Although most of this work has been done in the tropics, there appear to be opportunities for drylands as well.
