Georgetown Water service area transfer
The City of Georgetown is exploring the sale of most of our 💧water service territory that is located outside City limits and our ETJ. Of the City's 74,000 current customer accounts, about 11,500 would be included in the sale.

The City is exploring this option to
✔️Better plan for future growth
✔️Manage the rising costs of water and infrastructure
✔️Focus our service territory to areas where we have a say in development

We are still early in this process. Visit our website for additional details, as well as an interactive map of the proposed transfer areas.

👀Watch this video to hear more about this plan from Georgetown City Manager David Morgan.

The City and social media
Howdy, Georgetown! We're glad you're following along on our social channels. Here is a quick breakdown of what we can and can’t do on City social media 👇

👀 Why don’t I see your posts?
Facebook decides what shows in your feed. To see more from us, go to our Page → tap Following → choose Favorites/See First and turn on notifications. Engaging (likes/comments) also helps!

😉 Why do you sometimes post silly things?
Fun posts help boost engagement, so important info shows up in your feed too.

🚫 We cannot delete comments.
First Amendment rights protect public speech. The only time the City can remove comments is if they break our clearly outlined policy (things such as threats, harassment, foul language, or illegal content). Meta, however, sometimes removes comments for violations of its community standards.

❓ Where did your comment go?
If you don’t see your own or others’ posts, it’s likely a Meta filter issue, not the City hiding anything. Try adjusting your Facebook feed or filters to “all comments” instead of “most relevant.”

We use social media to share info, answer questions, and keep Georgetown connected. Thanks for being part of the conversation!

Loose pet? Visit a 🧑‍🚒fire station!
Found a loose dog or cat 🐕🐈 and don't know where to go? The 🚒Georgetown Fire Department can help with that, too!

All 7 fire stations in the City have 🔍microchip scanners, and if the pet is microchipped, our firefighters can help connect lost pets with their owners. Dogs and cats without microchips can still be taken to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter.

Share your thoughts on the City’s proposed budget
City Manager David Morgan presented the proposed Georgetown FY 2026 budget Aug. 12, which 💵includes:
✔️ 70 new staff positions in various departments including 21 new 👮 police +👩‍🚒 fire positions
✔️ New fire station design and public safety equipment
✔️ Transportation projects and park improvements

Additional revenue is needed to cover the 📈increased cost to manage growth (such as major infrastructure projects 🚧, development pressures 🏗️, and employee retention 👷).

📊More facts about the City budget📊

--Williamson County’s Tax Appraisal District establishes property valuations, not the City.
--The City's portion of your property tax bill is about 20%.
--Georgetown's tax rate is among the lowest in the region.
--The revenue the General Fund gets from property taxes amounts to $23 million, which is 20% of our general fund budget. The police department's budget alone is more than $27 million.
--Where you live affects your rates: If you live in a municipal utility district, you will have different rates than people who do not.
--The City has been working on this budget through City Council meetings since January, including a ~3.5-hour workshop on July 8.
--The City’s annual street maintenance program is funded by a quarter-cent sales tax approved by voters every four years and helps extend the life span of our roadways and prevent damage that can lead to more costly repairs. You can read more about it here.
--The City does not tax gas or collect/charge toll road fees. The City gets 2% of the 8.25% you pay in sales tax.
--The City is limited in what we can do to manage growth, particularly in our extraterritorial jurisdiction and outside City limits, which is where we are seeing the most growth for our services.

Georgetown offers a free academy to help everyone understand the ins and outs of their local government. We encourage everyone here who is interested in learning more to sign up for the Civic Leadership Academy next year.
