Reserve Bank Australia (RBA)
Australia’s new $5 banknote enters circulation in September. Issuance is being supported by an information campaign to ensure that the Australian public is able to identify the new banknote and its security features.
The $5 banknote is the first in a new series and other denominations will be upgraded over coming years. Each banknote in the series will incorporate the same security features. Additionally, they will each feature a different species of Australian wattle and a native bird within a number of distinctive elements. The new $5 banknote features the Prickly Moses wattle and the Eastern Spinebill.
The new series also includes a ‘tactile’ feature to help the vision impaired community distinguish between different banknote denominations. The tactile feature on the $5 banknote is one raised bump on each of the long edges of the banknote next to the top-to-bottom window.
The Reserve Bank has launched the RBA Banknotes mobile app, which is available in the Apple and Google Play app stores. Further information, including a range of resources, can be found on our website.

ATMIA Committees
As our ATM world changes due to reasons such as IT,  hardware, regulatory, fraud, operator changes, etc. ATMIA is continually ramping up or winding down committees as necessary to keep its members well informed of impending changes. Committees are made up of a cross section of  members and subject matter experts. The work effort on behalf of committee members is minimal but of high caliber. Please take a look at the existing working committees to see if you are interested in becoming involved to guide change.  .https://www.atmia.com/committees/
Next Generation ATM Architecture Committee
Are you interested in joining ATMIA’s new Next Generation ATM Architecture Committee? This committee meets to share next generation projects in the industry, pilots and case studies in order to encourage innovation. It is an interesting and stimulating forum for exploring evolving software, hardware and network architecture in the ATM industry. Please drop Mike Lee a line at mike@atmia.com if you wish to join.
The ATM Industry Association has announced that it has created a new level of membership specifically for financial institutions.  Although FIs have always been an important segment of the membership, this new level combines selected benefits into a package that ATMIA expects to be of particular interest to banks and credit unions of all sizes.
“ATMIA supports the professionalism of ATM deployers primarily because they take care of the customer touchpoint. The association is proud to announce a customized membership package for Financial Institutions to cater to their unique needs as ATM deployers in a demanding marketplace. Banks and credit unions are likely to find the package of benefits we’re offering both useful and educational,” says ATMIA CEO, Mike Lee.
One of the objectives of the new level is to allow for more individual members, which means that numerous FI departments can now become fully engaged in ATMIA activities and resources.  Committee groups and Best Practices address ATM-related issues and processes for security, risk management, business development, and compliance, as well as operations.  Financial Institution Members may also designate one representative to participate in their Regional Advisory Board.
“With a growing group of over 90 banks and other organisations amongst our existing members already qualifying for this new category, the ATMIA can rightly claim to represent the whole ATM industry, including Financial Institutions", says Ron Delnevo, ATMIA Europe Executive Director.
Sharon Lane, Global Director, Finance and Member Services noted that “New benefits are being introduced for the Financial Institution membership level that will be attractive to banks and credit unions globally; including one free course from the ATMIA Academy certified on-line education program.  ATMIA members also gain from the support and knowledge of other members through their membership.”
More information about Financial Institution Membership is available on ATMIA’s website, as well as from the Executive Director of each ATMIA Chapter
