Vaccine Conversations with Parents, Caregivers, and Patients
An article in the September issue of “Pediatrics,” the clinical journal for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), provided additional insight into parental opinions on the benefits of childhood vaccines. One finding was an increase from 18% in April 2020 to 31.5% in March 2022 from parents agreeing with the statement, “Childhood vaccines may lead to illness or death.”
As misinformation about the safety of vaccines continues to spread, this study helps inform the conversation around vaccines between providers and parents/caregivers. The good news is that providers continue to be the most trusted resource for parents/caregivers when vaccine questions arise. The article also found the percentage of parents who agreed with the statements, “Childhood vaccines provide benefits to society” and are “useful and effective” remained high at ~93%. Please continue to engage parents in conversations around the safety and benefits of pediatric immunizations as your voice does make a difference.

Did You Know?
Did you know that if your patients aren’t attributed to you on their CareSource card then you won’t receive incentives for them, even if you’re providing the care There is a simple way to check the Provider Portal for any patients you may be seeing but are attributed to a different provider. Download this tip sheet on how to check for mismatched attribution then have your patients complete a change form the next time they are in your office. Change forms take approximately 4-6 weeks to be completed once submitted. Contact pfkprorelations@childrensdayton.org with any questions or to request copies of change forms for your office.
