Today’s college students face growing financial challenges.

The cost of higher education has risen far faster than inflation, placing increasing pressure on students and their families. Starting in July, stricter limits on federal student loans will reduce access to affordable borrowing, forcing many students to turn to private lenders where interest rates are higher and approval is far from guaranteed.

For students like Deborah, these challenges are all too real.

Inspired by a healthcare internship in Vietnam, Deborah enrolled in an accelerated nursing program. But with little time to work while in school full-time and insufficient financial aid, Deborah found her options limited: Take on significant high-interest credit card debt to stay enrolled and support her living expenses, or give up her dream of becoming a nurse.
