This evening, Aug. 6, Boulder City Council will discuss several proposed ballot measures, including the Downtown Development Authority (DDA). 

Looking ahead, City Council is currently scheduled to review the final terms of a proposed sale agreement for the city-owned surface parking lot at 2121 Broadway on Thursday Aug. 20.

Community members interested in running for Boulder City Council are encouraged to begin preparing for the Nov. 3, 2026 election. Six seats are on the ballot this year, including the Office of Mayor and five council member positions.

The candidate petition period is open Aug. 4 - 24, 2026. To appear on the November ballot, prospective candidates must:

1. Review the qualifications to run for City Council.
2. Complete the online intent-to-run form and take the candidate oath.
3. Gather signatures from 25 to 35 registered electors.

The City of Boulder is accepting applications for the Resiliency Hub Pilot Program, which helps nonprofit organizations prepare for extended power outages by supporting the installation of battery backup systems that can keep critical community services operating during emergencies.

Eligible nonprofits may receive up to $50,000 toward a battery storage system or a battery-plus-solar system, along with guidance from an energy advisor to evaluate options and navigate the installation process.

Applications are open and must be submitted by Aug. 14, 2026.

Community members who receive emergency alerts through BOCOAlert.org will receive more consistent and standardized alert language for text messages they get during an emergency. The City of Boulder, Boulder County, and other dispatch centers across the Colorado Front Range have now aligned the wording and structure of their emergency alert templates so that community members get the same clear, life-saving instructions no matter which agency sends the message.

Additionally, the City of Boulder will be using a hi/lo siren, which will sound from Boulder Police patrol car loudspeakers in the event an Evacuation Order is issued.

The City of Boulder is replacing the deteriorating wooden pedestrian and bike bridge deck at Arapahoe Avenue over South Boulder Creek, between Old Tale Road and Cherryvale Road. The new bridge will include an upgrade to a concrete deck for a safer, smoother and quieter ride.

Construction is anticipated to begin on Aug. 11, 2026, and last about two months, pending weather and contractor availability. Work will primarily be during daytime hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local and business access will remain open, and those impacted have received advance notice. Visit Cone Zones for a map and updates.

Register now for the Contract Opportunities Summit on Oct. 22 at the Boulder JCC. The Contract Opportunities Summit is a focused, half-day event designed to help small businesses understand how to do business with local municipalities across Colorado. The Summit offers a hands-on introduction to public-sector contracting, with a strong emphasis on opportunities in local government.

There's still time to apply for the City of Boulder's free Arts Business Cohort, a professional development program designed to help artists and creatives build sustainable creative careers.

Participants will take part in eight weeks of hands-on learning, receive guidance from Boulder SBDC advisors and local business professionals, connect with a cohort of fellow artists, and earn a $1,000 stipend upon successful completion of the program to reinvest in their creative practice or business.

The program is open to Boulder-based artists across all creative disciplines. Applications close Aug. 18, 2026.
