We will continue to keep you informed with this monthly newsletter, now representing the Office of Student Experience, Office of Student Enrollment and Business Services, and the Office of the Dean of Students.

JAESSON LUJANJaesson Lujan will serve as Coordinator of Veterans Affairs, and will be responsible for VA certifications, website content, social media initiatives, recruiting and retention initiatives, and student success and advocacy.
Jaesson has a degree in economics from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA and an MBA from Temple University. He is an eight year Navy Veteran, a college instructor in economics and leadership, has worked for the VA, and also spent several years in the Insurance. Industry He is also an FAA certified master parachute rigger and has completed over 150 jumps himself. He has traveled to six countries on four continents. BISHOP SANDERS Bishop Sanders joins the Admissions team as the Manager for Admission Support Services. Prior to joining the Office of Admissions, Bishop worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Program Analyst. He brings 2 years of admissions experience from his position as an admission counselor at Hiram College. Sanders graduated with his Master of Public Administration from Ohio State University and holds degrees in political science and communication from Hiram College. He is excited to join the team at YSU and, “looks forward to helping build and implement new strategies to attract students in a dynamic and changing world." In his free time, Bishop loves to garden, woodwork, and is currently trying to learn the guitar. Send him a welcome message at cbsanders@ysu.edu.

KATIE STEPHEN
Katie Stephen has joined the staff of Student Counseling Services as a Clinical Counselor. She will provide clinical mental health services to YSU students. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Kent State University and is a licensed professional clinical counselor. In her last position, Katie counseled children as a school-based therapist.
Katie is happy to be at YSU to help students achieve academic and personal success.She has a cat and a dog at home and she loves to spend time with friends. To welcome Katie to campus, send her a message at kastephen@ysu.edu.

Virtual Penguin Preview Day, set for Friday, February 12, 2021, is a chance for prospective students to experience the University from the comfort of their own homes. This online open house program will feature live, web-based sessions from a variety of departments on campus to help future Penguins discover what makes the University a great place for their academic future! For the spring program, we will also offer special sessions for accepted high school students. The "Accepted Student Session" will walk them through all the next steps they need to take to become a YSU student and the “Find Out Your Admissions Decision” session gives students the chance to meet one-on-one with admission coordinators. There are also optional live Q&A sessions participants can attend to chat with current YSU students, a Virtual Information Booth containing a wealth of videos and resources for them to discover and much much more. Call for 2021 Student Affairs Award NominationsNominations are now being accepted for these awards to be presented at the Student Awards banquet on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Nominations are due by Friday, March 5.

- The Edna K. McDonald Cultural Awareness Award recognizes an outstanding individual who has made a lasting contribution to encouraging and increasing awareness of cultural diversity at YSU
- The Gillespie-Painter Award recognizes outstanding achievement in support of the Division of Student Affairs at YSU beyond the scope of assigned duties.
- The Student Service Award recognizes an outstanding individual from outside of the Division of Student Affairs who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the students of Youngstown State University.

LEARN ABOUT YSU'S VETERAN STUDENTS with Reveille–Warrior Awareness Training
Friday, February 19 | Friday, March 19 or Friday, April 16 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM with 20 minute lunch break
The YSU Office of Veterans Affairs provides training for YSU faculty, advisors, staff, and graduate students studying higher education to better understand the needs of our veteran students and those currently serving in the US military. Among the issues discussed are military culture, the GI Bill, military mental health issues, and common hurdles and perceptions student veterans face when attending college. The training includes a student veteran panel. Choose one from the three sessions that will be offered this semester. Participants receive a certificate, pin, and magnet upon completion.
