NATIONAL QUANTUM INITIATIVE ACT REAUTHORIZATION INTRODUCED
On Thursday, a group of bipartisan senators introduced the National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act, which seeks to authorize new funding to support quantum research and development at federal science agencies after aspects of the program lapsed in September 2023. The bill, which Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) also co-sponsored, would provide support for five more years of the coordinated efforts at agencies, including $85 million per year for the National Institute of Standards and Technology and $25 million per year for NASA. Senator Budd said, "Maintaining America's leadership in technological innovation is non-negotiable for our national defense and economic growth. Quantum computing has transformative potential in finance, healthcare, secure communications, and other fields. We must continue to strategically invest in quantum research and development to ensure continued American security and prosperity well into the future.”
