Kickin' It
Women’s soccer Head Coach Kim Calkins has a wealth of experience at all levels of the game, from youth recreational leagues to the pros, having previously been the director of OL Reign’s academy program, head coach of Sounders Women, and technical director of Washington Youth Soccer. Calkins was a midfielder for University of Portland when she was in college and also played professionally for the Boston Breakers. Calkins likes to keep busy when she isn’t coaching, spending time with her family, including her three teenage daughters.

HACKS & CHOPS Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Orchestra Anna Wittstruck was elected to serve as vice president of the Western Region of the College Orchestra Directors Association. She’ll spend a year as VP, followed by a year as president of the region.

Get Fit This Fall
Interested in exercise and wellness but not sure where to start? Puget Sound’s physical therapy students want to help! Partner with exercise clinicians and PT students who will work with you one-on-one for seven weeks to create an individualized exercise and wellness plan. At the end of seven weeks, you’ll have the tools to continue your individualized plan and a head start toward your wellness and fitness goals. All ages and abilities welcome. Student actors rehearse the spring production

BREAKING FREE Earlier this year, the cast and crew of Puget Sound’s spring theater production, Machinal, explored the costs of conformity—and the opportunity to create a live theater experience that wouldn’t have existed without the pandemic. Production posed certain challenges, such as some cast members performing remotely and the absence of an in-person audience. The show’s director, Associate Professor of Theatre Arts Jess K. Smith ’05, turned Norton Clapp Theatre into a combo film set/soundstage, and the show was streamed online to a live audience. Read the story.
