Dear Student:
Ball State University is closely monitoring the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). We are committed to keeping the campus community safe.
If you have traveled to, have been in close contact with people who have arrived from countries with sustained (ongoing) transmission of COVID-19, or are known to have COVID-19, you are required to take action even if you are not showing symptoms of COVID-19. The following action steps are consistent with
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance.
1. Stay home for 14 days from the time you left an area with widespread, ongoing community spread of COVID-19 (Level 3 Travel Health Notice countries) or last had close contact with a person known to have COVID-19.
- If you are home or away from campus, practice social distancing there, and do not return to campus as the best care and monitoring may be available at home for the 14-day period.
- If you live in the residence halls, you will not be permitted to return to your residence hall. You must make alternate housing arrangements for the 14-day period.
- If you live in non-University housing (off-campus), practice social distancing at your off-campus residence for the required 14-day period.
- Email your professors to make arrangements to complete your academic obligations. Faculty will work with students who are required to practice social distancing.
- Email the Office of the Dean of Students at dos@bsu.edu to inform them that you are practicing social distancing. Please provide your name, cell phone number, your emergency contact name and cell phone number, and the address at which you are practicing social distancing.
- Contact your employers and discuss your work situation with your employer before returning to work.
2. Monitor your health.
- Take your temperature with a thermometer two times a day and monitor for fever. Document your temperature every time you take it.
- Watch for cough or trouble breathing.
3. Practice social distancing.
- Stay home, and avoid contact with others.
- Do not go to work or school for this 14-day period.
- Do not take public transportation, campus shuttle buses, taxis, or ride-shares.
- Avoid crowded places (such as shopping centers and movie theaters) and limit your activities in public.
- Keep your distance from others (about 6 feet or 2 meters).
What To Do If You Get Sick
If you get sick with fever (100.4°F/38°C or higher), cough, or have trouble breathing:
- Seek medical care. Call ahead before you go to a doctor’s office or emergency room.
- Tell your doctor about your recent travel and your symptoms.
- Avoid contact with others.
