National League of Cities Explores OEV's Groundbreaking Economic Inclusion Efforts
Last week, representatives from five cities in the National League of Cities’ Southern Cities Economic Inclusion Initiative cohort—Saint Petersburg, FL; Chattanooga, TN; Knoxville, TN; Savanah, GA; and New Orleans, LA—embarked on an enlightening journey to Tallahassee to learn about OEV's work in economic inclusion, particularly through its supplier diversity initiatives aimed at maximizing the utilization of minority and women-owned businesses. During their visit, the cities toured various public and private projects, including (1) SoMo Walls, (2) Tallahassee Housing Authority’s Columbia Gardens, and (3) the Doak Campbell Project at Florida State University. Additionally, attendees received presentations from Autumn Calder of Blueprint and Brenda Williams of the Tallahassee Housing Authority. The key takeaway for our visitors was witnessing how economic inclusion is realized through a robust supplier diversity program that stimulates job creation throughout the community.
