Give her (civil) liberties
Economics and sociology senior Caroline Williams recently interned with the Nationwide Development Resources team of the American Civil Liberties Union. The experience aligned perfectly with her longstanding interest in public policy and social issues. In addition, Williams said, it "opened my eyes to the possibility of a career in development or nonprofit work. I had been considering many different career paths, but truly enjoying my work showed me that this may be a great fit."

Bright like the sun
The international scientific community is taking notice of high-efficiency solar cell investigations by Professor of Physics Parameswar Hari and his students. A study published by Hari and Amrit Kaphle (PhD '19) has been selected for the RSC Advances 10th-anniversary collection focused on solar energy, while another of Hari's peer-reviewed papers, written with current doctoral student Rusiri Rathnasekara, is featured on the cover of the May 2021 issue of Journals of Material Research.

There's a new deputy in town
TU College of Law alumna Cassia Carr (JD '16) is the new deputy mayor of Tulsa. Along with her work at City Hall, she also serves as president of the Tulsa Economic Development Corporation. "We are a big city with a community feel," said Carr about her hometown, "and we have a unique and attractive lifestyle to offer to citizens. I want to continue to improve on that and make it even better."

Diversity laurels
The University of Tulsa has received the 2021 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award, a national honor recognizing U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. TU was selected in recognition of its many efforts, including creating the Black Alumni Leadership Council; organizing new committees, including the Diversity Training and Bias Response Team; expanding diversity training offerings; and publishing a tribal land acknowledgment.
