Partner Power
Fighting the cycle of poverty is SO much easier with rad partners in your corner.

That's why we have to give a HUGE shoutout to Communities In Schools here in Aurora. We've teamed up with CIS for their last two My Time events. Talk about making an impact -- My Time brings in about 500 area middle school students! The program focuses on engaging middle school students in high-quality after school programming.

It's been a rewarding experience to work with other orgs who have a heart for our youth. Check out our Facebook page to see some highlights from our recent events with CIS!

Doing good is kinda boss
I love celebrating GOOD.
That's why I was stoked to attend Lumity's Annual Dinner earlier this month at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago. We were nominated as a finalist for the Technology Leadership Award for how we've built custom apps in Podio to help us better focus on our mission.
The whole experience was straight awesome sauce. Lumity's mission is to build the capacity of Chicagoland nonprofit's through leadership, resources, technology, and corporate, philanthropic and government networks. The awards dinner not only honored and recognized NPOs making a difference, but also was celebrating Lumity's 30th year. And more than 350 people packed the place. Sweet!
Even though we were named a runner-up for the TLA, we couldn't be happier. We came away refreshed and energized by the number of awesome peeps who we met and some connections we made. (We'll tell you more about that next month!) The award came with a $2,500 prize -- so thanks to Accenture and Lumity for that support!
Also, I have to give a special shout to Kara Kennedy and Lisa D'Angelo from the Lumity crew, as well as the panel of judges and Lumity and Accenture.
In the end, it was rad to see how passionate people are about using technology for good. Is that how you roll? If so, you should fill out a volunteer or internship form. Is your passion something else? Tell us what it is.
Come do some good with us. Then we can celebrate as we make a difference together.

WE FIGHT!

Sometimes people get confused when they hear our mission is to "fight the cycle of poverty." That's what we do, and the fight is real, yo! Check out what Police Chief Greg Thomas recently said about Triple Threat Mentoring in the Beacon-News.
"Aside from initiatives being taken within the department, Thomas also credited outside agencies like The African American Men of Unity, Triple Threat Mentoring, and other youth-geared programs for their crime prevention efforts.
“It has been a tremendous partnership, and our relationship with (those agencies) has helped move these numbers in a positive direction,” Thomas said."
Our passion-based programs are our weapon of choice to fight poverty. It's a real fight. JOIN US!

26.2 Miles to Amazing

Dang. Talk about a fundraising fury!
We've gotta give a huge THANK YOU to these 5 peeps who raised $5,736 for Triple Threat as part of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon Official Charity Program
Michael Taylor, Nina Roberts, Allie Simmons and DJ Damrow and Lindsay Damrow
A special thanks to 3T Junior Board member Michael Taylor, who recruited and organized the team! Holler at us if you'd be interested in running for our team next year, as we may be awarded additional slots!
Cooking up some support
Mix all ingredients. Set oven to 350. Fundraise.
That was the recipe for Old Second Bank, who recently held an employee bake sale to benefit Triple Threat. They raised more than $230!
We love when businesses get involved. Get your business involved and hit up our GSI page! And thanks again to Old Second for being awesome
Calling all (aspiring) coaches!
Thanks to Up2Us and AmeriCorps, Triple Threat is looking to hire two half-time coaches and one full-time coach for 2014- 2015! SCORE!
A coach is an athlete who uses their love of sports to make an impact in an under-resourced community. Coaches must be college aged or older and available to work 20-40 hours a week.
We can officially start accepting applications on April 18th, so be sure to fill out an application if interested!
