Connecting Across Districts
|
What is a district leader's role at the National Tournament? Do district chairs have obligations they are expected to fulfill? What are ways a district’s coaches can collaborate to make their National Tournament experience cheaper, more fun, and more safe? Is there something fun your district does every year that you’d like to brag about? Join us for a District Leader Town Hall on Tuesday, March 19
at 7:00 p.m. CT where we’ll answer these questions, share ideas, and connect across districts. Register today! If you’re unable to attend, a recording will be available.

Don't Forget: SLC Nominations and Wording Committees
|
- Each district has the opportunity to nominate one student for the NSDA Student Leadership Council (SLC). High school students who will graduate in 2025, 2026, or 2027 were eligible to be nominated by coaches in your district through a standard form until Thursday, February 15
. Chairs received copies of the nominations via email and must report their district’s nominee by Friday, March 1. The NSDA will determine the final SLC in the spring. Please check if you received nominations by searching your email. The subject line convention is Student Leadership Council Nomination Form [Student Name].
- Calling all coaches in Congress, Extemp, Impromptu, and Commentary! Are you passionate about shaping the topics for the 2024 National Tournament? Here's your chance to get involved! All coaches and former competitors are invited to apply to join a National Tournament topics committee to help shape the legislation and prompts that will be used at this year's tournament. Learn more about the topic writing process on the Topic Creation Hub. Apply via the Involvement Interest Form by Wednesday, February 21.

Are you concerned about your level for next year? Take a page out of the Eastern Ohio District’s book and challenge your student members to set a points or degrees challenge for themselves. Ask students to log in to their NSDA Account and check out their points earned. Considering their performance at tournaments combined with service opportunities, have them figure out how many degrees they think they can earn for the rest of the season. Have them “pledge” a way to get there (e.g., “I will attend XX tournaments in a single event or double-entered; I will volunteer XX hours coaching middle school competitors, etc.”). Consider offering some kind of incentive or celebration when students collectively meet their goals. Stay tuned for further updates about levels following the February Competition Rules Board meeting.

Practical Professional Development: NEW Judge Accreditation System
|
Next month, in mid-March, we will launch the much-requested NSDA Judge Accreditation system. These free, interactive learning modules will be event-specific and aim to bolster judges’ confidence and proficiency. All judges, regardless of their NSDA membership status, will be able to learn the ins and outs of judging each event at their own pace. Judges at NSDA-run events will be required to take the judge training courses, and a new feature in Tabroom.com is being created to make it easy for any tournaments to require that judges at their events have completed the training as well. More details will be coming soon, but in the meantime, check out the first course,
Intro to Judging Debate!
