Celebrating Breakthrough's College Graduates
On June 3, Breakthrough held our first annual College Graduate Banquet to celebrate 49 bright young men and women, all Breakthrough students who have reached their goal of becoming first-generation college graduates. Special thanks to St. David's Episcopal Church for hosting this event, which brought together Breakthrough graduates, their families, and current and former staff to celebrate this major accomplishment.
"We want to tell you how the entire Breakthrough family is so absolutely proud of you," Daniel Jackson, Director of College Completion, told the graduates. "You are what this whole thing is about. You are that dream come true."

Welcome, Summer Teachers!
Last week, Breakthrough launched an intensive two-week training institute for 134 college-aged teaching interns from across the country. These talented individuals will teach math, science, English, social studies and leadership skills to our 6th-9th grade students this summer, dedicating their own school breaks to supporting our students on their path through college.
Our summer teachers are all serving as AmeriCorps members, joining a national movement of service. We owe many thanks to these summer teachers, as well as our community partners who enable us to work with them: AmeriCorps, OneStar Foundation and College Houses. Thank you!
Breakthrough named Manor ISD's Beyond School Time Partner
Breakthrough was honored to be named Manor ISD's 2015 Beyond School Time Partner of the Year. This award recognizes our partnership with the district to help Manor students reach their goal of becoming the first in their families to go to college. Breakthrough has worked with Manor ISD since 2011, and we currently serve more than 400 students in 6th through 10th grade in the district. We are grateful to Manor ISD for this recognition, and we look forward to continuing this partnership and helping more students succeed.
