Sept. 6 marked one year since I joined the SUNY Oneonta community. I thank you all for being so welcoming and supportive. As I mentioned during my remarks at the employee opening breakfast earlier this month, I am proud of all that was accomplished last year and excited about the many initiatives underway and on deck for this year. I am very happy to be working alongside all of you and acknowledge your hard work, which makes a difference in the life of our institution and the lives of our students and your colleagues.
I hope to see you at the inauguration ceremony on Friday, Oct. 14, as well as at the events earlier that week designed to celebrate our college's connection with the local community. Additional details, a link for more information and to RSVP to the ceremony are included in an article below.
The search for our next Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs continues to make progress and is in the recruitment phase. Thank you to everyone who has provided input on the search thus far. Please continue to watch the Oneonta Bulletin for announcements about next steps in the search process.
Sincerely,
Alberto J.F. Cardelle
President

With travel in full swing again and professional meetings back in person, the D’Antonio Student Travel for Excellence Fund is ready to assist students who want to participate in these experiential learning opportunities.
Since it was generously established in 2012 by Caroline ’67 and her late husband, David, the D’Antonio travel fund has helped more than 1,100 students attend and present their research at professional conferences, meetings and workshops across the United States and in 15 other countries. Travel to the College Fed Challenge hosted by the Federal Reserve in New York City, the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Cape Cod, and the Bahamas Natural History Conference are just some of the meetings our students have attended and presented at, thanks to the D’Antonio fund. These are great opportunities to network with fellow students from other institutions, meet leading scholars and other professionals, and discover more about their chosen field and potential career paths. Over the years, some students have also made connections that led to internships and job offers.
Students are invited to submit an application during the five grant rounds with the next deadline on Nov. 15. Individual awards of up to $750 can assist with transportation, registration fees, lodging and food. The fund is open to both undergraduate and graduate students with first priority given to students presenting research or creative activities. To be eligible, travel cannot be a requirement of a class, although travel for an independent study is eligible. Awardees must be SUNY Oneonta students at the time of travel.
The Caroline ’67 and David D’Antonio Student Travel for Excellence Fund is administered by the College at Oneonta Foundation. For questions about submitting an application or for more information about the fund, visit the fund webpage or contact me at Audrey.Porsche@oneonta.edu.

The Office of Global Education (OGE) advances academic excellence, inclusivity, intercultural understanding and experiential learning through programs and services for international students, visiting scholars, education abroad students and students participating in domestic faculty-led programs. The OGE is committed to preparing SUNY students to attain their professional and personal goals and contribute positively within the global community through meaningful educational opportunities.
As part of the Regaining Momentum Agenda, the OGE supports the initiative to ensure all SUNY Oneonta students have the opportunity to participate in experiential learning. To do this, the Office will work to increase international programming and streamline processes for students and faculty.
We are excited to announce that the OGE recently hired Matthew B. Lerman as a full-time Faculty-Led Program (FLP) Coordinator. The Coordinator will assist faculty and staff in the planning and execution of all domestic and international, credit-bearing or course-required, overnight travel; guide program leaders in adhering to policies related to College Sponsored Student Travel; and manage the submission of information to the College Travel Registry. Additionally, this position will support students throughout the FLP process and advise students on other SUNY Study Abroad programs.

Collaborative Effort Results in Student-Designed CRJIE Logo

|
| The Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence has proudly unveiled its new student-designed logo and signage. The student designer, Kelsey Etienne '23, was selected after a competitive and collaborative process during the Fall 2021 semester. The CRJIE Advisory Committee sought the assistance of Assistant Professor Kathy Spitzhoff and her Advanced Graphic Design class. Representatives of the committee along with a CRJIE student manager visited the class to explain the goals of the project and answer any student questions about the CRJIE. The graphic art students visited the CRJIE to get a better sense of the facility and then began work on their proposals. The committee reviewed 10 of the most promising student proposals, provided feedback, and selected its three favorites. The three finalists presented their final proposals to the committee, and Kelsey's design was selected. She worked with the institutional communication group to iron out the final details prior to the production of the signage.
Kelsey explained that she designed the visual identity project to be in alignment with CRJIE's mission to provide a safe space for students. "The design's "crescent shapes are dynamic elements that depict a sense of movement to form a circle. This visual represents unity and wholeness. The main four muted colors were chosen to make the target audience feel welcomed. Purple represents justice, royalty and spirituality. Orange represents freedom, optimism and youth. Turquoise represents wisdom, tranquility and protection. Brown represents resilience, dependability and safety."
