The Fresh Cow: Ketosis
The focus point of any herd health program should be on the early detection of sick fresh cows. More than 35% of all dairy cows have at least one clinical infectious disease or metabolic disorder during the first 90 days, which can be costly to the farmer. Clinical and subclinical ketosis are the most common metabolic disorder in high-producing dairy cows, costing up to $289 per case. According to the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, 93% of ketosis cases occur between 5 and 30 days post-calving.
In this recent factsheet, learn more about the impact of ketosis, what it is, risks, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention to keep dairy cows as healthy as possible as they transition back into milking.

How Parents Can Help Their Children Achieve Higher Education
There are many resources available to parents on understanding the school system and how to be more involved.
One of the keys to achieving high school graduation and pursuing higher education is family involvement. However, language, cultural, and economic barriers can make being involved in children’s education more difficult. Parents who do not speak English may feel uncomfortable getting involved with their children’s schools or have trouble communicating with teachers. Parents may also be unfamiliar with the U.S. school system and lack the necessary resources to help their children navigate through school. Furthermore, strict work schedules can make things like attending school events and helping children with homework nearly impossible. Despite the barriers, high school graduation and higher education are possible!
Learn more about the U.S. School system and how parents can be more involved.
