| God is good! All the time!
The Bible tells us this in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV) 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
I know that may seem like a challenging thing to do, but if we took time to think about the blessings of God in our lives, we would be far better off than dwelling on the things we see as unfavorable.
There have been many times in my life that the difficult things have turned into blessings!
As we enter this year with optimism about the things which lie ahead, as well as the knowledge our Lord will lead and guide us, we also realize there will be moments of great challenge as we move forward.
We have several challenges for Hanging Rock this year:
|
|
|
- Finish the dining hall extension
- Finish the old dining hall so it works with the new
-
Get contractors for our new projects with the grant
- Have the bathrooms for all the dorms finished before the summer
- Have the accessible cabin finished before summer
- Hire summer staff
-
Get the camp ready for summer camp 2025
- Raise money for the dining hall extension so we are not in debt for very long.
These are just a few of the challenges that are rolling around in my head and heart for this year. All very exciting things but, all have a deadline as well.
One reason I enjoy the Word of God is that it doesn't “sugar coat” the facts. While you and I appreciate the great victories in our lives, we must always remember that a victory is not really a victory without a battle!
I have always been inspired by the words of Caleb of “Joshua and Caleb fame” in the Word as they were poised to enter the Promised Land after wandering with the unbelieving people for 40 years in the wilderness. He didn't allow their unbelief and failure to deter him from the promises of God, and the defeats of the past weren't going to affect his faith about the future! If you have a few moments read the following scripture and take a moment to compare it to what's behind and what lies ahead. Joshua 14:10-12.
Those words “…give me this mountain” are powerful words to read! This year might seem like a mountain, but with God walking with us and available to us, the victories that lie ahead are many!
Please keep us in your prayers and if you are willing and able help us achieve these victories.

A lot has taken place over the last month. The building is completely sealed up. The outside of the building is complete with metal siding. The porch ceiling is finished. The next thing we will see happen is the electrical throughout the building, spray foam insulation in the ceiling, and then painting the ceiling and rafters. We are so excited about the progress of this building. |

Ok, here it is, what we have paid out so far for the new dining hall, old dining hall, furnishings and labor-$338,000. We have had to borrow $26,000 so far for these projects. We know we have commitments from some of our supporting churches for this year to help us pay back what we have borrowed.
Our goal is that by the end of 2026 we will once again be debt free. We will still need to raise an additional $63,000 to fully pay for the new dining hall, we are close to having all the furnishings we will need. We still have a few things in the old dining hall to fix so that we have good flow. We anticipate needing $100,000 to fully finish everything from the new building to landscaping the outside to blending the two buildings together. We have furniture to purchase for the porch and also the courtyard.
We pray if you have been blessed financially, that you would bless the camp financially. We need your help.

The camp has offered financial assistance for many years, not desiring anyone to be denied a life-changing opportunity to attend camp. Last summer we gave 29 scholarships that equaled $5,200. Our scholarship fund needs funding. We have depleted that account and are in need of building it back up before summer. With our fundraising efforts going to projects, it has caused us to not get funding for this very important aspect of Hanging Rock. If you feel led to help with this fund you can donate online and put in the memo it is for scholarships. Thank You for your help.

Terry Evans Memorial Project Update: |
We wanted to give an update and show some pictures of this project. We want to thank Guy Phillips, Owen Moudy, and Casey Isdell for spearheading this project. It has been awesome to see the work that they have put in and the history behind the building. We are close to having this building put back together for this summer season of horse camp. All that is left is putting up the inside wall and finish some outside things and the doors are being re-built. Then we will put everything back into the building. We are planning to unveil this building on our workday in May.

From Todd,
I know it is cold outside, and some may be tired of seeing snow, but just wait. Summer camp is right around the corner! That may seem far-fetched, but it is true. Soon, there will be campers running around the field, worshipping in the chapel, playing paintball, sitting around the fire at wilderness, riding the zipline, trail riding on a horse, and jumping off the diving board. There will be a buzz around camp, and there will be thousands of mouths to feed too!
With that in mind, it is time to help pack the pantry and cleaning supplies again here at Hanging Rock!
We are in need of 1- and 2-gallon Ziploc bags, magic erasers, laundry detergent, paper towels, and blue Dawn dish soap. We are also in need of cereal donations. If you are not aware, we go through A LOT of cereal. Usually 10-15 boxes a day, if not more!
We are always blessed by your generosity in helping us pack the pantry with cereal! We are asking again for your help to pack it in 2025. Popular flavors are Lucky Charms, Froot Loops, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Frosted Flakes, Cheerios, Rice Krispies, but we will take all kinds! We are also happy with store brand; it doesn't have to be name brand.
Feel free to reach out to Todd Blair at toddblair@hagingrock.org to arrange pick up of those items, or to arrange drop off at camp! Thank you so much for helping us pack the pantry!

We have 3 projects that we have been funded for by a grant from the Wheeler Foundation of Illinois. This includes handicapped bathrooms for all 8 dorms, a handicapped cabin that will sleep 18 and a new handicapped lift for the pool. We feel extremely blessed by this grant. We wanted to let you know where we are at with these projects. We are still in the process of securing contractors, and we hope these will begin in March so we can have them completed by this summer. Our goal would be to have all of this finished by Celebrate Good Times on June 1, 2025. We are looking at putting the cabin close to the field restrooms where we can potentially add more cabins in the future. We are looking at building off the end of each dorm to add the accessible bathrooms. So, the dorms would have bathrooms on both sides of the dorms. We want to give a BIG shoutout to David Meihls, Principal Consultant-ADA Consulting of Indiana for helping us achieve this grant. Below is the drawing for the accessible cabin. We will add 3 twin beds in the middle that will enable this cabin to sleep 18. The other change is that that this cabin will be setup just like our other dorms, the accessible bathrooms will be on one end and have 2 accessible showers and toilets, we anticipate having 4 sinks.
