Task Force to Address Sexual Assault Services in Oakland County
Sexual assault is an unspoken problem in Oakland County and we are continuously taking steps to address the needs of victims. Currently, we are looking at available services through the eyes of victims, advocates, police, prosecutors, doctors, forensic examiners, and educators to determine how to more effectively coordinate care.  We need your input here: Sexual Assault Community Assessment
We are also forming a task force with a goal to ensure that every victim of sexual assault in Oakland County is treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve. This may include offering new programs and improving relationships between agencies.  If you are interested in more information on the task force or would like to participate please contact: Cindy Menzies RN, CFN at cmenzies@haven-oakland.org.
More Than a Fashion Statement
In 1996, a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by her driving instructor in Rome, Italy. During the trial, the head judge announced that due to the fact that she was wearing tight jeans and had to help him get them off, the sex was consensual. Enraged by the verdict, women of the Italian Parliament wore jeans on the steps of the parliament building in protest.
HAVEN is inviting businesses and schools to raise awareness about sexual violence by allowing staff and students to participate in what has now become known as International Denim Day on April 29th. Make a social statement with your fashion statement and show support by wearing denim. Click here for more information.
