More Than a Fashion Statement
In 1996, a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by her driving instructor in Rome, Italy. During the trial, the head judge announced that due to the fact that she was wearing tight jeans and had to help him get them off, the sex was consensual. Enraged by the verdict, women of the Italian Parliament wore jeans on the steps of the parliament building in protest.
HAVEN is inviting businesses and schools to raise awareness about sexual violence by allowing staff and students to participate in what has now become known as International Denim Day on April 29th.
