CAC is excited to welcome author Elizabeth Bettina to the secondary campus tomorrow morning for a special program aimed at encouraging students to take action in serving and assisting veterans (view the bell schedule here). Bettina is the author of the nonfiction book, "It Happened in Italy: Untold Stories of How the People of Italy Defied the Horrors of the Holocaust" and the creator and co-founder of "Be the Difference — Never Again," a program that uses stories of individuals who did the right thing for others, even if it meant risking their lives, to teach students how to likewise take action when it’s not easy.
History teacher Lynnette Noble, who organized the event, said she hopes the program will teach students that learning about past wars and conflicts is only a small part in the path of responsible citizenship. “I hope we model for students a way to take action in helping those around them rather than expecting someone else to do so,” Noble said.
In addition to hearing from Bettina, CAC's high school students will enjoy a private viewing of the PBS special “Debt of Honor.” The segment is part of PBS’s “Stories of Service” initiative which seeks to build a new bridge between military and civilian cultures in the United States and promote conversation about how Americans treat their veterans.

Q&A with CAC’s new head boys’ basketball coach
Tell us a little bit about your background.
I’m from Lonoke, Arkansas. I grew up playing baseball and basketball, but I grew a little taller than I thought I would and eventually gave up baseball for basketball. I played on many teams that were tough and in winning programs with high expectations. There was pressure, but it was fun. I learned from some great coaches how to work and that hard work beats talent any day.
Tell us about your experience playing basketball at Harding.
Harding was a great place — I loved everything about it. It helped me with my faith and taught me how to be a man of God. Coach Jeff Morgan was a great role model. He took a lot of us under his wing and taught us how to be fathers and great husbands. And he taught us some really great values along with basketball.
Speaking of fathers, your daughter Olivia was born in August. Tell us a little bit about her.
She’s great. She’s growing fast — faster than I imagined any baby could grow. I figured out there’s no way you can prepare 100% before they’re born. Everything’s unexpected — you just learn as you go. It’s a blessing to go home to see God’s creation sitting there. You wonder how in the world that happened.

CAC’s drama department brought the 1960's business world to life over the weekend with four performances of the musical comedy “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”
"Thank you to the fifth graders at CAC’s Pleasant Valley campus. After hearing a presentation about Laundry Love, its mission, and its services, they asked us to pass around a donation jar and donated straight from their own pockets! What an unexpected and touching display of selflessness and compassion — refreshing in this day and age."

From the spring musical, to North Little Elementary's art show a few weeks ago, it’s easy to see there’s an abundance of creativity at our three campuses. Earlier this month, Maumelle Magazine printed an article about the faculty members “driving the creative train” at our school. We’re grateful for these talented individuals who keep the arts alive and thriving at CAC!

In athletic news, CAC grad and former Major League Baseball pitcher A.J. Burnett was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame on March 4! Burnett was the starting pitcher for the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the 2009 World Series and retired with the Pittsburgh Pirates at the end of 2015.
