Mark 4:21-22
He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?   For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.
New International Version (NIV)
Light is hard to hide.  A college football player decided to break curfew (shocking, I know).  But how would he make it look like he was in his bed?  A large man, he decided to put the lamp, shade and all in his bed, and put the covers over it.  Out the window he went, confident that he would not be caught.  His coach checked in on him and flipped the light switch at the hotel . . . lighting up the whole bed!
You can’t hide light, even if you want to.  Jesus says that we his followers are the light of the world.  We could keep it on the down low I suppose, except if it is true, we won’t be able to conceal that we are God’s people.  Like the moon reflects the rays of the sun, so God’s children glow and grow in glory the closer we get to him.
Here is a thought:  what if we put the light up on a stand so everybody can see our God at work in us.  Remember the children’s song, “This little light of mine . . .”  Let it shine today and every day.  Someone will see, and it will be good!
Pray with me:
Father, let the light, light of your face shine on us, that we may be saved, that we may have light to light our way in the darkest night.  Let your light shine on us.  Let your love come over us.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen!
