December is...

a time to reflect on the liberation of all people
The end of 2019 is a perfect opportunity to reflect on the past year and look toward the future - not only as a movement and as members of our respective organizations, but also as individuals.
Part of our values here at Violence Free Colorado include the pursuit of social justice, knowing that equity is essential to ending relationship abuse, and challenging power-based perceptions, assumptions and behaviors to advance equality for all.
As we move into 2020,our staff is working to ensure those values are fulfilled in who we are and what we do in our work at Violence Free Colorado. What can we do in our daily lives to inspire this type of radical change?
We hope that you'll take some time during the month of December to consider this as well. These questions can help you find focus around your own purpose. Does anything on the list resonate with you?
Here are a few of our favorites:
  • What’s something you want to do that’s impossible? What would need to change to make it possible?
  • What are you willing to struggle for?
  • How do you want to make others feel?
  • What sparks your creativity, makes the wheels in your head start turning?
It isn't always easy to consider a new world vision, especially when we're living in such challenging times. But we work toward this vision because we know that the world we want to live in - one that includes equity for all, safety for all, and liberation for all - is too important to ignore.

Violence Free Colorado 2019 Confidentiality Toolkit updates are now available
Violence Free Colorado is proud to announce a newly updated Confidentiality Toolkit. The Toolkit is designed to support community-based domestic violence organizations and advocates as they navigate issues around confidentiality.
Confidentiality is a core value of community-based advocacy and one of the many ways we can offer support and help empower survivors. However, sometimes navigating confidentiality issues can be a frustrating challenge. This Toolkit lays out the fundamental principles and legal guidelines around confidentiality and delves deeper into some commonly shared challenges.

The 2019 update include an entire new section focused on navigating confidentiality concerns between roles. This is especially useful for programs that employ or contract with mental health providers. This new chapter (and the Toolkit as a whole) is a great starting point when thinking about organizational policies and navigating specific situations, but it certainly isn’t the end of the conversation.

Violence Free Colorado is available to provide ongoing training and technical assistance  around any of the topics of this toolkit. Have a question? Want to run a de-identified scenario by us? Want to focus in on one particular topic for a staff training or webinar? Violence Free Colorado is here to support you, so give us a call or email soon!

If you would like a digital copy of the toolkit or an editable copy of the templates in the Toolkit, please email us for the links.

Launch of the Coalition Against Stalkerware and other updates from the NNEDV Safety Net Team
The National Network to End Domestic Violence is a founding member of the recently formed Coalition Against Stalkerware, a group made up of antivirus companies and advocacy organizations. This partnership engages companies to come together to design industry-wide standards and responses to stalkerware. Learn more from NNEDV's State of Stalkerware in 2019 report and the Making Strides to Stop Stalkerware blog post.

NNEDV recently helped the Federal Trade Commission settle their first case against a developer of stalking apps, resulting in three apps being taken down and over 15,000 subscriptions cancelled. NNEDV
helped the FTC craft their announcement and device notifications where these apps were installed. Learn more about this on the Making Strides to Stop Stalkerware blog post.
As a result of these changes, NNEDV revamped and updated the resources available on spyware/stalkerware in their Technology & Privacy Survivor Toolkit
