We’re only two weeks away from one of our favorite events of the year – the Annual Children’s Halloween Parade! This is our 34th year hosting this beloved event with Manhattan Community Board 2. We hope to see you there, enjoying free candy, performances, and rides!

At NYU, outreach and engagement efforts have always been a pillar of our mission, and 2024 is shaping up to be no exception. This past spring and summer, NYU students, faculty, and staff from across the university once again united in a shared commitment to uplift local organizations and individuals in its surrounding communities.

Founded in 2009 by Artistic Director Naomi Goldberg Haas, Dances For A Variable Population is a multigenerational dance company and educational organization committed to promoting strong and creative movement among older adults of all abilities. Through classes, dance workshops, and performances, the organization serves over 2,500 older adults throughout NYC annually.

Project SAFE of Family Health Centers at NYU Langone has been providing teen leadership and HIV peer education programming since 1989 at the Project Reach Youth site in Brooklyn. Project SAFE trains youth between the ages of 14 and 19 to provide life-saving information to their peers through workshops, performances, and community outreach. Project SAFE provides youth with the support and the opportunities they need to not only avoid risky behaviors but also to develop to their full potential and become agents of change in their communities.

Started by Greenwich Village mask maker and puppeteer Ralph Lee in 1973, the Village Halloween Parade began as a walk from house to house in his neighborhood for his children and their friends. After the second year of this local promenade, Theater for the New City stepped in and produced the event on a larger scale as part of their City in the Streets program. That year, the Parade went through many more streets in Greenwich Village and attracted larger participation because of the involvement of the Theater. After the third year, the Parade formed itself into a not-for-profit organization, discontinued its association with Theater for the New City and produced the Parade on its own. Today, the Parade is the largest celebration of its kind in the world.

Join Manhattan Community Board 2 and New York University for an afternoon at one of the city's largest free children's events on Halloween Day!

The parade will assemble at the arch in Washington Square Park on Thursday, October 31, at 3:00 PM, and will end at LaGuardia Place between Washington Square South and West 3rd Street where children and families can enjoy live entertainment, carnival rides, trick-or-treat giveaways, and more! Fairgrounds open at 3:30 PM.
