As our nation once again grapples with the aftermath of a mass shooting—this time taking the lives of 17 people at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida—we are sending our deepest thoughts, condolences and prayers to the victims, their families and everyone impacted by this senseless tragedy.
But our thoughts and prayers alone are not enough. As an organization whose efforts are dedicated to preventing harm and keeping communities safe, we are also compelled to act.
With that in mind, we are embarking on a journey. Throughout this year, we are pledging to deeply study the subject of gun violence, and to share what we learn with the communities we serve. We are doing so from a firmly evidence-based, public health-focused point of view. Among the questions on our mind:
