November 2015
There are 4,586 alumni in one place. Where, you might ask? No, it’s not Pella, Grand Rapids, Lynden, Manhattan, or even Sioux Falls. Not in Visalia, Chicago, Abbotsford, or Minneapolis—not even Sioux Center, although those are great guesses. Of our 18,301 alumni, 4,586 of them are right in front of you —on LinkedIn.
With LinkedIn's alumni tool, you can explore where many of your classmates live, the companies they work at, and the industry they're in--and you can even recommend them to others based on their skills. It is a fantastic, free tool that we use to show what Christ-centered renewal is all about through the Dordt College community. Are you wondering about a former roommate or curious about what your lab partner is up to? Check it out today.
--Brandon Huisman, director of alumni & external relations
P.S. Not sure why to use LinkedIn or how to set up your profile? Here’s a handy guide we use to coach our students. You'll also need to be signed in to see the alumni tools linked above.

Defender Days: through the eyes of a studentDefender Days: One of the times that we college students are reminded that the majority of the world is not actually college age, that we do have real, live families, and that we all came from a world outside of campus. It’s a time when, for many of us, our two worlds connect: people from home come to our home-away-from-home. Even if we didn’t have a parent that made it out, most of us got to meet some of our friends’ parents and get a better idea of why they are the way they are. We also got to talk to a lot of alumni and were reminded that school actually ends eventually, that we were not the first to be crazy busy, to make friends with professors, to be great athletes, or to do crazy shenanigans to The Gift.

Teams Claim GPAC Titles
Women's Cross Country: The Dordt College Defender women’s cross country team claimed the 2015 GPAC Championship with a 44 point performance at the meet hosted by Doane College in Crete, Nebraska.
“The ladies ran very strong in winning the conference by just over 30 points, with four runners all-conference (top 15) and a fifth at 16. The pack continues to run tighter as the season progresses,” said Dordt College coach Nate Wolf.
Women's Volleyball: Dordt College earned a come-from-behind win in set five to take its GPAC match with Northwestern in front of an energized, near-capacity crowd at the De Witt Gym. The tussle, which took well over two hours, wasn’t decided until Dordt scored four points in a row to win set five and the match, and along with it the outright Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season title.

| Nature Geoscience features research by Dordt College professor Dr. Channon Visscher
How did the Moon become the Moon?
That’s the subject of an article published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Geoscience, co-authored by Dordt College Professor of Chemistry and Planetary Sciences Dr. Channon Visscher. Visscher took part in the research while serving as a visiting scientist last summer at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in Boulder, Colorado, working with a team led by Dr. Robin Canup.
The article, “Lunar volatile depletion due to incomplete accretion within an impact-generated disk,” is already getting attention from both scientific and mainstream media, including the BBC. Read more at www.dordt.edu.
