IMPACTING
IMMIGRANT INTEGRATION

At a recent webinar on reducing barriers to citizenship and the need for a partial fee waiver, CSII, CAP, and NPNA presented our joint report entitled "Profiling the Eligible to Naturalize."
NBC News provides coverage and analysis of this research in the article, "High fees limit citizenship to wealthy, non-Mexicans."

MEDIA MENTION:
Movement Moments

#BlackLivesMatter activists are reclaiming Dr. King's legacy through localized, direct action. As a commentator, Prof. Pastor lauds local action and talks about strategies that will be needed to unify, sustain, and secure tangible wins for this particular movement. He draws lessons from recent movement efforts like Occupy.

MAKING THE MOST OF TRANSIT

Why is transportation equity a "just growth sweet spot" and what does this mean for the future of L.A.? Manuel Pastor and Madeline Wander discuss mobility, growth, and justice – and how the region can improve environmental conditions, stimulate economic growth, and advance equity all at the same time.

MEDIA MENTION: Racial Generation Gap

With the racial generation gap widening in some regions, two articles below explore what this means politically, socially, and economically for state investments in key areas (like social programs, immigration, and education).

“We need to bring people together across geographies and generations, create bridges across race and place,” says Prof. Pastor.

LIFTING UP L.A.

Immigrant activists have played a crucial and unique role in transforming L.A. into a "bastion of progressivism," according to Prof. Pastor in his new essay. He argues that immigrant activists made a decision to join in progressive organizing a choice that should not be assumed but should be nurtured, in L.A. and elsewhere.

MEDIA MENTION: Youth Unity in South L.A.

In this article on how South L.A. communities are unifying around issues of police accountability, Prof. Pastor points out how of youth of color are stepping up as leaders.
“This is an issue that young people get, young people understand that there is over-policing of African-American and Latino youth and they are upset about it and want it to change.”
