CTE Exploration Day - Huge Success!

Bringing Career and Technical Education to life with hands-on, interactive displays, 23 companies showed off dozens of career opportunities available. Held outdoors on a beautiful autumn day at Caledonia High School, 600 students met area experts in manufacturing, construction, transportation, agriculture, and much more. Experts networked with local youth talent during intentional 30-minute networking sessions.

“This was perfect, exactly what my students needed. They are excited and engaged.” - Mark Moulton, Industrial Tech and Robotics Teacher at La Crescent-Hokah School

October is Full of Great Events!

Construct Tomorrow is an active, engaging event for students interested in the trades. This free event is LIVE this year at the Mayo Civic Center on Wednesday, October 27th. Sign up on the website for a 90-minute time slot: 8:00, 9:00, 12:00, or 1:00. Masks are required at the event. Chaperones are also required (parent, teacher, career navigator). Register here. Perkins funding is available for schools attending Construct Tomorrow.

Manufacturing Month is all of October! This is a great time to connect with local manufacturing companies. Resources, locations, and program support are available through Minnesota State Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence. Transportation funding is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, up to $500! Visit them online (mnmfg.org) to apply for transportation funding. If you are a manufacturing company offering in-person or virtual tours, or educator interested in tours, let’s get you connected!

College Knowledge Month is here and MN State College Southeast invites students to explore the educational opportunities in Winona and Red Wing. There are a number of events and visit days available. For more information, visit College Knowledge Month. In case you didn’t know, students can apply for free in October.

Better Together

Eleven companies and organizations joined Bluff Country Collaborative partners in September with one goal: bringing industry and education together for shaping the future talent pool. Attendees included Courtesy Corporation - McDonald’s, Fillmore County Journal, Fastenal, 7 Rivers Alliance, Spring Grove Public School, Kwik Trip, People’s Energy Coop, City of Spring Grove, City of Houston, La Crescent Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, Houton County EDA, Workforce Development, Inc., CEDA, Southeast Perkins Consortium, and Southeast Service Cooperative.

Centered around learning how FutureForward works, professionals explored the layers of career-connected learning, from career awareness to exploration to employment. Ideas generated by the group range from website update or redesign, marketing support and creating flyers, to internships (engineering, finance, administration), mentorship, and seasonal paid positions. Skills learned and practiced through these experiences include customer relations, organization, networking, and self-awareness.

Bottom line is industry and education are better together.

Resource for Teaching Diversity

The African-American Registry Teacher’s Forum assists E-12 school staff in developing a consistent pedagogy that teaches by reaching students with factual diverse content in all subjects every day. Provided by a grant program through Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System Office, this resource is a substantial value - in both content and dollars. Visit aaregistry.org to learn more. Subscription to the Teacher’s Forum of the Registry is free of charge for CTE teachers who attend a 90-minute training on November 9 via Zoom. Are you curious? Reach out to learn more.
