As I approach the 1-year mark of serving as Director of Elysian Charter School, I have a lot to reflect on.  It’s been an extremely busy year of learning, not just for our students, but for myself as well.
The students, staff and families who represent our community have offered me equal parts a welcoming environment, along with a “let’s get to work” mentality.  It has been a terrific year!
And it is with this idea in mind that I wanted to mention our school’s fundraising efforts.
Last week, letters were mailed out for Friends of Elysian’s “Cross the Finish Line” leg of their 2018/2019 Annual Appeal.
Having been at the school a full year now, I am acutely aware of the uphill battle ours, and all charters, face with state funding.  And I’ve closely witnessed how hard Friends works to raise crucial funds for Elysian.
We’ve already been able to purchase new literacy and phonics curricula, thanks to Friends of Elysian’s support.  Their “Elysian Loves Literacy” campaign was also a huge success.
As the year quickly comes to a close, let’s keep the momentum up and help Friends of Elysian hit their $150,000 Annual Appeal goal!
Rebuild by Design Meeting
Elysian will host a REBUILD BY DESIGN meeting on Thursday, June 6th from 6-9pm.
It’s important that it is ATTENDED BY ELYSIAN COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
We need your support and input.
This plan will impact where our students have recess for many years.
At this meeting you will:
• Be updated on preferences for park components that emerged from community input during the last round of Design Zone Workshops;
• Be updated on two design concepts that have been further developed for Cove Park in
Design Zone 2 based on community input;
Note: we will not be finalizing the plan, but rather selecting a park concept (from 2) and features that we’d like to include in order to move forward with 1 design for the park.
3rd Notice - Are You Returning To Elysian Next Year?
  • "Are You Returning Next Year to Elysian?" forms went out 3 weeks ago.
  • Please fill out and return to the office or your child's teacher as soon as possible.
  • If you are unsure, please know that you can retain your spot until you are certain of your plans.
  • It is helpful for us to plan ahead, so that we keep our school fully enrolled.
Dear Elysian Families,
We are in the midst of planning for the next school year and need to know your plans.
All Elysian students are guaranteed a spot next year, as are siblings (space permitting).
If you tell us there’s a chance you might not return, we’ll hold your child’s place until you make a final decision. This information enables us to encourage wait-listed families to “hang on” since there's a chance a space might open up.  In this way, you help us achieve full enrollment for the next school year.
We appreciate your answering in an honest and timely fashion.
 • Complete the form, below, and return it to your child’s teacher or e-mail susan.gilbertson@ecsnj.org
If you have more than one child, please fill out one form only but include information about both children..
Please include any in-coming siblings on the form as well. It is helpful to let us know now if you will have an incoming kindergartner for the 2020-2021 school year.
ARE YOU RETURNING TO ELYSIAN IN THE FALL?

Notes From The Nurse
Dear Parents,
Warm weather has finally arrived! There are a few health reminders for the warm weather season:
● Please apply sunscreen to your child in the morning before school. They go outside for recess weather permitting.
● Send reusable water bottles in order for students to remain hydrated.
● Make sure your child wears warm weather attire and shoes that will not slip off.
Regards,
Diane DeSombre, RN

    We must mark all children absent who are not in attendance.
