A Guide to Finance Dashboards |
|
|
Dear Colleague,
This edition of AIRE Connect highlights the finance dashboards available to academic and administrative leaders on the Lawrence and Edwards campuses.
Today, we're sharing three dashboards you should consider when evaluating finance activity in your role as a dean, department chair, director of an academic unit, vice provost, or vice chancellor.
If you need access to the linked dashboards and don't currently have it, please contact AIRE-help@ku.edu.
As ever, please reach out to me (corinne-bannon@ku.edu) with feedback or questions.
With very best wishes,
Corinne Bannon
Chief Strategy & Data Officer and Vice Chancellor

|
| Sources and Uses is used for budget planning purposes and is reviewed with KU Financial leadership during the 4+8 and 8+4 meetings.
This dashboard includes all non-project funds and shows three prior years of actuals, current year actuals, and year-end projections. It also includes the current year budget and compares current and projected actuals to the current year budget. The report is designed to show how effectively a unit utilizes their resources and for that reason prior year carryforwards are not included, except for in the Carryforward Trend analysis on the second page of the dashboard.
Users can select their Primary ARSP, Division, or Department using the filters at the top. Budget details will populate below.
This document provides additional resources for using the dashboard.

What is my budget, how much has been expended so far, and how much am I expected to spend by the end of the fiscal year?

Financials at a Glance provides several views of current and forecasted non-grant funding balances. It includes budgeted amounts, transfers, payroll and all other expenditures, encumbrances (POs and Travel Requests), as well as forecasted Salary & Fringe expenditures and manual forecasts managed by the budget officers and the KU Budget Office.
The initial page - titled 'Budget Summary' - provides a summarized view of a unit's budget, with the ability to drill down to transactional details. The subsequent pages provide a more focused view on forecasted transactions, endowment, and the details of transactions.
Users can apply the filters at the top to narrow down the results, including the Department, Fund, Endowment Account etc. The page is defaulted to show the current fiscal year activity, but that filter can also be changed to view prior year information.

Payment Insights provides key metrics and trends for payments and reimbursements processed in FITC and Concur. Each of the pages is designed to provide the high-level summary of the time it takes to pay at the top of the page. Users can access more detail as they scroll down, allowing them to identify possible contributing factors to the overall days to pay.
Users can use the filters at the top of the page to view payment times by either the Funding Department or the HR Department, as well as other process specific criteria.
