Last week, Laser Day brought more than 1,150 new students and 57 parents to campus for a full day of connection and discovery! After an inspiring welcome from college leadership and an engaging student panel, attendees dove into academic presentations and explored 11 breakout sessions. Professional Development Week kicked off on August 11 with President Hernandez’s annual State of the College address. In his remarks, Dr. Hernandez celebrated recent IVC accomplishments, outlined strategic priorities for the year ahead, and offered a first look at the 40th Anniversary video, "Little College in the Orange Groves: 40 Years in the Making."  The week wrapped up with the annual President’s Luncheon, a tradition that brought colleagues together to reconnect and celebrate community.

IVC students now have a more affordable path to earning bachelor’s degrees online, supported by a new partnership with Arizona State University (ASU). IVC has been named one of California’s top 25 community and career colleges delivering strong, fast return on investment (ROI) for students. According to the new "Golden Returns: A Regional Look at the ROI of California’s Community and Career Colleges,” a new analysis by College Futures Foundation and Michael Itzkowitz of the HEA Group, IVC graduates earn back the full cost of their education within six months of completion. On August 8, the MESA Program celebrated the successful wrap-up of its inaugural Summer Projects Advancing Research & Knowledge (SPARK) program. Over the course of eight weeks, 12 students immersed themselves in hands-on research, building skills in programming, data analysis, electronics, and experimental design under the mentorship of Professor Alec Sim. Professor Steven Nguyen guided a chemistry-focused project, adding another exciting dimension to the experience. On July 18, IVC partnered with Girls Inc. of Orange County and the office of Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris to host the second annual IgniteHER Summit.
