March 2017
Open Access Content and Project MUSE
The MUSE platform is becoming a home for OA (open access) content.
The journal collections do not include open access journals, but Project MUSE welcomes OA journals on the Project MUSE platform through its Hosted Journals program. Current OA journals on Project MUSE:
Hosted journals are additional journals on the MUSE platform that are:
  • integrated into the complete listing of MUSE journals
  • searchable and discoverable same as journals in collections
  • not included in any collections
  •  available to institutions as individual title subscriptions
With the generous support of the Mellon Foundation, MUSE is developing a program for the broad and cost-efficient distribution of OA monographs in web-native formats. This project will launch in 2018. OA books currently available include those from Cornell University Press.
MUSE Rolls Out Early Release Journal Articles
The new program places individual journal articles online prior to the release of the full issue. The new program compliments MUSE’s practice of providing embargo-free content and the most recent scholarship in the humanities and social sciences.
Search results may now include early release articles:
  • labelled as either preprint articles, early release articles, or ahead of print articles (depends on how a publisher prefers to label the article)
  • replaced by the final version when the full journal issue launches
  • contain full and valid citations
  • technically edited and copyedited
Just Added for 2017 - Two New Book Publishers
Two additional publishers will add  books to MUSE collections in 2017. Wits University Press describes itself as “at the crossroads  of African and global knowledge production and dissemination.”  Manchester University Press is “known globally for excellent research in the Humanities and Social Sciences.”
