Psalm 145:11-13
They tell of the glory of your kingdom
    and speak of your might,
so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.
The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.

New International Version (NIV)
Who is the greatest King ever?  Israelites, surveying the long history of the monarchy, might have answered confidently, “King David.”  David, though, answered unequivocally, “God.”

King David wrote this Psalm and gave praise to his King, the Lord.  God’s Kingdom is glorious, powerful, splendid and everlasting.  Every human ruler evinces some flaw or another.   We can think of leaders who are angry.  Some are proud.  Others are greedy.  Still others are full of lust.  Only one ruler ever ruled perfectly.

It is good when the king of a country knows the King of the universe!  As King David honored the Lord as King, we must also give glory to God.  Either God is our King or we do what is right in our own eyes.  God is a much more trustworthy ruler than any human ruler we can imagine.  God is better at ruling our lives than we are.  Are we willing, today, to abdicate the thrones of our lives in favor of the true King?
Pray with me:
Your Majesty, we bow our lives before you.  We pledge our loyalty and life-long love to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Reign without rival in our lives today, we pray.  Father, may your name be held in high honor.  May your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us the bread we need for today.  Forgive us our sins, we pray.  Do not lead us into trials but deliver us from the Evil One.  Yours is the kingdom, power and glory forever.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
