Starting the 2018-19 academic year with hope and excitement
| |
Dear Alumni and Friends: Over the next four years, these students will be taking part in numerous experiences both within and outside the classroom that will help develop their skills in critical thinking, communication, and creative problem solving -- which, according to a recent study by the Association of American Colleges & Universities, 93% of employers say they are specifically looking for. These broad-based, versatile, and innovative "soft skills" are some of the hallmarks of a liberal arts education -- and I'd like to take a moment to address just a few of the latest ways how CAS continues to play a key part of our students' transformative experiences.
- Our multimillion dollar renovation of Pearson Hall, home to the Departments of Biology and Microbiology as well as the Mallory-Wilson Center for Healthcare Education, has completed Phase 1. It offers new, open, modular spaces designed for interdisciplinary and collaborative use.
- CAS has been increasing its number of tenure and tenure-track fulltime faculty, including 14 new tenure-track faculty this fall.
- Beginning this fall, students can major in Public Health, a BA degree program established in collaboration with the College of Education, Health and Society.
- The Department of Nursing, based at Miami Regionals, now has an active presence on our Oxford campus, where nursing students will fulfill Miami's two-year residency requirements.

With our ongoing efforts to continue attracting high ability students, increase revenue, and fulfill our commitment to all our students, many more exciting developments at CAS are ahead. They will be revealed in the months to come. I wish you all the very best in the new academic year!
