This year’s Duck Vision theme honors our feathered friends and their amazing sense of sight. Did you know a duck’s field of vision is nearly 360°, they can focus on objects that are near and distant, or objects in two separate locations, at the same time, and Ducks can see three to four times further than humans, and their eyes can see colors that we cannot perceive
It’s true! Ducks see nearly everything, in more colors than we can imagine, and from many perspectives at once.
How can we support our own Duck Vision for deeper insight in 2026?

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sharon Ginn on January 3, 2026 at Riverbend Hospital due to complications from a stroke. Sharon worked at the University of Oregon for nine years and was instrumental in developing our asset and preventative maintenance program. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.

River Otter on the Millrace |
| |
|
In addition to the many beaver sightings and last winter’s mink, this month's river otter reminds us that the Millrace is teeming with life—even on the coldest days. We don’t yet know whether this otter will make the Millrace its home or is simply passing through. However, knowing the Millrace provides enough food and habitat to support a river otter is truly exciting. As we continue restoring the natural area, we hope sightings like this will only become more frequent.

“Davey gets a commendation from me on this one. CPFM have been great responding to lose or HVAC belts. Davey recognized we might reduce the need by using a tensioning tool when setting the belts instead of tightening them by feel. So, he got the tool ordered and came to use it. Only time will tell how much it will help, but Davey's initiative in looking for ways to improve service and equipment performance is outstanding. Thank you! – Scott Fellman - JSMA
“Just keep being awesome!” – Anonymous
