Invitation to the 5th Annual Community Cybersecurity Summit |
Walsh University and Pelican3 Consulting will co-host the 5th annual Community Cybersecurity Summit on Oct. 12, beginning at 8 a.m., in the Barrette and Business Conference Center with a focus on economic development in Ohio, how advancements in technology create vulnerabilities and new cyber threats, and how businesses can protect themselves.
The conference begins with a panel discussion at 8:30 a.m., followed at 11 a.m. by Chief Technology Officer Julia Valentine of Inspire Global Ventures, a technology expert, entrepreneur, and investor, who will deliver the keynote. There will also be an update on Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) and new regulations for companies wanting to do work with the Department of Defense (DoD). Following lunch and concurrent breakout sessions at 1 p.m., there will be two additional panel discussions, one of which begins at 3:40 p.m., and is an “Ask Me Anything” about IT or cybersecurity format.
This conference is also a wonderful opportunity for students to network and learn about careers in cybersecurity and technology. The separate breakout session with Paul Hugenberg of Pelican3 Consulting at 1 p.m., will be held for students in attendance to engage in an interactive session to talk about careers in cybersecurity and exciting new opportunities for tomorrow’s cybersecurity professionals. Beth Ford Appointed Director of Undergraduate Admission |
|
|
|
Beth Ford has been appointed as the Director of Undergraduate Admissions. She will have oversight of all aspects of the admissions operations for undergraduate enrollment, including recruitment and enrollment planning, staff development and promoting cross-enterprise collaboration to support overall enrollment growth for Walsh. A veteran in the recruitment, retention and financial aid roles in higher education, Ford most recently served as the Vice President for Enrollment at Notre Dame College. She looks forward to positively impacting the admissions team to meet the new student enrollment goals. Read More

Women’s Volleyball is Making Walsh University History! |
|
|
The Walsh University Women’s Volleyball team is off to its best start in the program’s history! After two wins this weekend, they are 14-0 overall and 6-0 in the G-MAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference).
Here are some recent highlights:

- After being down 2-0 last weekend, the Cavs completed the reverse sweep, beating Hillsdale for the first-time in program history.
-
Junior libero, Arora Levengood, has been named G-MAC North Division Athlete of the Week twice as well as being Walsh Female Athlete of the Week twice.
- Senior, Sydney Dixon, has been named Walsh Female Athlete of the Week as well.
- The team has only lost 4 sets this year and are receiving votes in the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) National Poll!

Free Mental Health First Aid Training for Students and Employees |
The Byers School of Nursing is hosting a free Mental Health First Aid training course available to students, faculty, staff, and coaches. The evidence-based program embraced by over 20 countries will equip you to recognize, comprehend and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders within the workplace and among friends, family, and community. You will also learn to assess suicide risk, provide nonjudgmental support, offer reassurance and information, and encourage professional help, self-help, and other support strategies. By the end of the session, you will be knowledgeable about crisis resources and local mental health providers in our area for referrals. This is a blended course, involving two hours of prework followed by in-person application on Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the Barrette Business and Community Center. 9th Annual International Flag Ceremony and Reception, November 16 |
Nine years ago, Walsh University’s World Student Organization began a tradition of celebrating our students’ rich multicultural diversity. The flags on display in the Toot Global Learning Center reflect the various nations in which our international students hold citizenship. Each year, the flags are carefully moved to the Barrette Business and Community Center for the annual International Flag Ceremony to honor new and returning students and the countries they represent. This year, all students, faculty, staff, and coaches are invited and encouraged to attend the event on Nov. 16, from 4-5 p.m. Enjoy music by the University Choir, Music Ensemble, and entertainment by our international community. A dessert reception featuring international treats will follow.

2nd Annual Ohio March for Life Pilgrimage, Friday |
Students from Walsh University and Kent State will travel together on Friday, Oct. 6, to the heart of downtown Columbus for the 2nd annual Ohio March for Life. After hearing from various speakers on the issue at the 11 a.m. rally, they will march peacefully through the streets of Columbus, bearing prayerful witness to the sanctity of human life at all stages of development. At 1:30 p.m., they will attend a pro-life advocacy workshop hosted by the Center for Christian Virtue and return to Walsh campus.

Walsh University Marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month with Purple Thursday |
Cav Nation is invited to wear purple on October 12 in honor of Purple Thursday—a day of action dedicated to preventing and raising awareness about domestic violence. Show your support by wearing purple, either by yourself or with a group of friends! (Post with our hashtag #wupurplethursday)

Walsh University and Not For Sale. One Step At A Time partnered for the 5th annual Community Freedom Summit and silent one-mile Freedom Walk on Saturday. It was a tremendous success with over 1,100 in attendance, including students, faculty, staff and coaches to community members! A huge thank you to the Walsh community for contributing to the Cavs Cave Donation Drive. The Cavs Cave is a great resource for students in need. If you would like to support Cavs Cave, hygiene and food donations are accepted any time in Hannon 103. If you would like to contribute financially, please reach out to Tara Ebert at tebert1@walsh.edu and she will be happy to help. Hannon 103 will be unlocked daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., for students in need. Please use your swipe to access the side entrance to the building.
