We are delighted to announce that world renowned philosopher, writer, and former national security advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney, Dr. Joe Wood, will be serving as a visiting scholar, teaching two in-person philosophy classes for Fall II. Dr. Wood recently served as moderator for the U.S. National Security Policy Panel in September. He will be returning to Walsh University on Oct. 17 to instruct in-person for the Fall II and summer terms. He will be teaching Introduction to Philosophy and Catholic Belief and Practice. Class meeting times are indicated below, and students will have until Friday of the first week of Fall II classes to sign up for his class.

This Thursday, Oct. 12, students interested in careers in cybersecurity and technology are invited to attend the annual Community Cybersecurity Summit in the Barrette Business and Community Center. The conference begins at 8:30 a.m. and includes speakers, networking, and breakout sessions. Paul Hugenberg of Pelican3 Consulting will host a session at 1 p.m., for students in attendance to engage in an interactive session about careers in cybersecurity and exciting new opportunities for tomorrow’s cybersecurity professionals. On the heels of the fifth annual Community Freedom Summit, co-hosted by Walsh University and Not For Sale, One Step At A Time, Walsh announces the “Cavs Coalition,” a student-led organization that aims to educate, bring awareness, and offer prevention tips related to human trafficking. The coalition of students will work with advisor and Not For Sale founder, Kathie Gray, to engage community partners on various events, projects, and advocacy initiatives, including visiting local school districts to educate our youth. The Community Freedom Summit at Walsh University has been gaining momentum year after year hosting over 1,100 on September 30.  View the highlight video here. Boo at the WU, Walsh University’s Trick-or-Treat returns to a new location! Save the date for Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 6-8 p.m., at Larry Staudt Field. All families with children 12 and under are welcome to participate in this free community event! Costumes are encouraged. Enjoy lawn games, inflatables, and tons of candy. The WAVE (Walsh Accelerated Vision for Educators), a grant supported by the Ohio Department of Higher Education and Ohio Department of Education, cohort visited the Cleveland Museum of Natural History where they presented science kits they revised over the summer. The students who participated in the museum event were Leah Greczanik, Sierra Johnson, Lily Jones, Karah Pritchard, Christina Oros, Portia Svenson and Sara Thompson.

Walsh University students enrolled in Medical Sociology and Intro to Education participated in an Impact School service-learning collaboration between Walsh University and Our Lady of Peace Catholic School, an urban education setting many Walsh students had never experienced. They developed and presented lessons and activities on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and health for the students.

Congratulations to the Women’s Volleyball Team! They are 17-0 and are ranked #24 in the country in the AVCA National Coaches Poll! This is the best start in program history and the first time that a Walsh Volleyball team has been ranked nationally in the AVCA Poll. They will head to Hammond, Indiana this weekend to play in the D2 Midwest Crossover featuring teams from the G-MAC, GLIAC, and GLVC!
