Hi Neighbor!
Several Sundays ago, I was perusing the New York Times Book Review when a title stopped me in my tracks: I’m Glad My Mom Died. Written by Jennette McCurdy of iCarly fame, the memoir details her struggles as a child actor—a career forced upon her by her abusive mother, who died in 2013. Mother-daughter relationships are notoriously complicated, but this title takes it to a whole new level.
I imagine titling a book is tricky. It’s the first thing a potential reader sees, and there are no re-dos. So what makes a good book title? To me, the best ones summarize and sing. And like many things in life, there’s some luck involved. I once read that Peter Benchley titled his book Jaws because it was the only word he and his editor could agree upon. Of Mice and Men was originally titled Something That Happened (ha!). John Steinbeck changed it after reading Robert Burns’ poem, “To a Mouse.” Joseph Heller was initially devastated when he had to change his book title from Catch-18 to Catch-22.

Main Point Books Expands
Main Point Books is back and bigger than ever! After temporarily relocating to another storefront in Wayne, the popular indie bookstore wrapped up a big renovation and expansion in late April—just in time to celebrate its tenth anniversary. The newly refinished lower level adds about 2,000 square feet and now houses the shop’s children and young adult sections, with plenty of space for younger patrons (and their parents) to browse and play.
To Market We Go
There’s a new farmer’s market in town! Debuting THIS Sunday, May 7, the Berwyn Farmer’s Market will take over the plaza in front of Handel’s every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month
We have all been faced with increased mental health challenges over the past year due to COVID-19. Nutritional supplements have gained momentum for mental health support due to the increased interest in alternative approaches. Michael Briggs, COO of Lionville Natural Pharmacy has researched options he has found valuable while working with Lionville’s clients. Briggs feels it is always best to first look at foundational pieces, then move on to more targeted options.
There is a large body of research on omega 3 fatty acids improving mood and decreasing inflammation as depression is an inflammatory driven process. Additionally, the growing body of research into the gut-brain connection leads us to look probiotics for their role in balancing the microbiome. Optimal levels of Vitamin D have also been shown to improve mood & immune functions. The role of magnesium & B-vitamins should not be overlooked either for their many roles as cofactors in neurotransmitter production. More targeted approaches worth mentioning include CBD oil derived from Hemp, 5-HTP, adaptogens, and an active form of folic acid called methylfolate.
These targeted approaches should always be discussed with a healthcare professional who is knowledgeable about supplements as the dosages can vary greatly depending on age, severity of condition, and concurrent disease states and medications.
Contact Lionville Natural Pharmacy to set up a consultation or to learn more about supplements that may help improve mental health. Call 610-363-7474 or visit lionrx.com.
