Cassandra's Last Message

The summer is wrapping up quickly and that means my time as the 4-H summer intern is coming to an end.

This summer was filled with many opportunities for me to meet many 4-H youth who are doing amazing things! During my time as Intern, I chaperoned the Tri-County Camp, planned and lead the Wild Wacky Weekdays day camps, promoted 4-H at National Night Out in Horicon, and helped get ready for and assist the junior fair portion of the Dodge County Fair. Thank you to all of the adult and youth volunteers who helped out this summer, I couldn’t have done any of it without you!

This last week at the Dodge County Fair I enjoyed looking around and seeing all of the exhibits you brought and all I can say is WOW! I can tell you all have spent lots of time exploring and learning in your projects throughout the year, keep up the good work!

Good luck to all of you as the new school year beings and the current 4-H year ends. I can’t wait to see all the great things you do in the future!

Dodge County 4-H Summer Intern

Thank you everyone for your help
at the Junior Fair!

Another Junior Fair complete and in the books!! It was great to talk to so many of you at the Fair and see all of the wonderful exhibits. Congratulations to all of the 4-H members on their awesome achievements at the County Fair.

Thank you to the Fair Superintendents for your help over the week and especially for supporting the youth exhibiting what they have learned in the 4-H program this year.

Thanks for all the wonderful 4-H volunteers who helped wit hthe building set up and clean up, building watch, office support and those who lead fundraisers. The Fish Pond, Cream Puff and Silent Auction were wonderful this year. I appreciated all of the 4-H families who signed up and worked at the various other food stand fundraisers that contribute to the 4-H program.

A special thank you to Holly, Cameron & Caden Miescher for cleaning the youth building office and sweeping the whole youth building before we even got started setting up.

A special thank you to Rose Lake (Juneau Victorians) and Melissa Lake (Juneau Victorians) who organized Recycling at the Fair with 4-H families and individuals. This Endowment grant-funded project involved picking up and separating recyclables each day at the Fair. It also included funding to place more recycling containers around the Fairgrounds.

Also thank you to all the 4-H Clubs and 4-H supporters who donated 4-H Silent Auction baskets during the Dodge County Fair.

For anyone I missed, THANK YOU for everything you do for 4-H and the Dodge County Fair!

Everyone who helps with the Junior Fair is why we are so successful year after year. A big thank you again for all the help and before you know it, we'll be there again getting ready for 2024!

Record Books & End of the 4-H Year:

Record books will continue to be optional, and the local clubs can continue to make their own requirements for youth to complete 4-H for the year. Youth who would like to complete record books are encouraged to do so. There will be a county level recognition as well. Each club can send no more than 10% of the junior members and no more than 10% of the senior members of their club to the County for record book evaluation. Each project is counted separately, and the overall record book is also counted separately in the ten percent.
Clubs also need to provide volunteers who will sign up to judge the record books.

Annual Financial Reports DUE:

It is time to begin the 4-H Charter process. 4-H Clubs and Groups that have a checking and/or savings account must annually complete and submit the following documents to the 4-H Program Educator by September 1:

Wisconsin 4-H Clubs & Groups Annual Financial Report
Wisconsin 4-H Clubs & Groups Audit Checklist
A copy of the checkbook and/or savings registry covering July 1 – June 30
A copy of the bank statement ending June 30 or July 1 for each account. Any differences between the bank statement(s) and the ending balance reported must be reconciled and the reconciliation must be uploaded with the Annual Financial Report.
A current inventory of land, buildings, property, or project equipment with individual values of $2,000 or greater.
Monthly Treasurer’s Reports for 4-H Clubs or Groups with annual income greater or equal to $20,000.

This process allows the 4-H Club or Group to qualify for federal tax-exempt status under the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents General Exemption Number (GEN) for Wisconsin 4-H Clubs and Groups.

Failure to submit a completed Annual Financial Report and support documents by the due date could result in loss of tax exempt status, forfeiture of all financial assets and non-renewal of the 4-H Club or Group charter. Please contact Marie at 920-386-3790 if you have any questions.

Encourage club volunteers and youth members to serve on these leadership Boards! The 4-H Executive Board members can only serve for two terms at a time, with a total of four years. There are four vacant spots for the board next year and four vacant spots for the youth next year. This rule is put in place so that the same people are not serving the board and new opinions are being put out there. The youth have to be in 7th grade or higher in order to be nominated.

Field Trip Opportunity

Fall is in the air, and we are so excited to offer a unique field trip experience again! Seeing your smiling faces brings smiles to our faces as we hear the laughter and see the little feet and hands explore the fall outdoors at Ebert’s Greenhouse Village. We are pleased to offer field trips for $8 per student and $6 per chaperone. Classroom teachers are free. The fee includes a hayride, a small pumpkin for students, a craft project, a story, and full access to our play areas. Although many ages enjoy the program and activities, it is especially geared toward pre-kindergarten to 3rd grade.

Ebert's Greenhouse Village Kid's Korner

Older Youth Leadership Opportunity & LEGOs too!

Do you love LEGOS? The Hustisford Community Library is seeking a 4-H Youth in grade 7-13 or a certified 4-H Volunteer to lead a monthly LEGO activity session on Wednesdays for 1 hour in September - November. The LEGO sessions are open to all community youth and the LIbrary would love to have a 4-H Youth lead one, two or all three sessions. Attendees are typically youth in grades 5K-6. This is a great opportunity for older youth to demonstrate leadership activities on a resume, for scholarship applications, or in a 4-H Record Book.

WHAT: LEGO Building Activity Sessions - a 4-H Youth to lead a one hour session

WHO: 4-H Youth in grades 7-13

WHEN: 2nd Wednesday of the month from 3:30-4:30pm (Sept. 13; Oct. 11; Nov. 8)

4-H Movement Jibbitz Design Contest

Have you heard about Jibbitz? We are looking for members to use their voice and creativity to illustrate the values of WI 4-H by entering the WI 4-H Movement Jibbitz Design Contest. If you did not know, Jibbitz are the charms or shapes that you can add to croc type shoes, but you can also add them to a bracelet as well.

We will select several youth designs, and once they are made into Jibbitz, youth throughout Wisconsin 4-H will have the opportunity to collect up to 8 different Jibbitz by participating in fun challenges or participating in statewide programming. Deadline to submit your designs is September 1st, and they can be submitted through the link below:

Beef Project Display Challenge!

The Wisconsin Beef Council and Wisconsin 4-H Foundation are offering a display contest to all Wisconsin 4-H beef project members. The goal of the contest is to encourage 4-H beef project members and exhibitors to create an informative and appealing display that will educate consumers attending fairs or other events throughout the summer.
