Dear 4-H Families -
Each year, February is designated to celebrating the contributions that Black Americans have made to our great nation, and to recognizing that Black history is American history. The celebration of Black History month has its origins
in 1926, but it has been since 1996 that presidents have annually issued proclamations calling on "public officials, educators, librarians, and all the people of the United States to observe this month with relevant programs, ceremonies, and activities" (President Biden, Proclamation
, January 31, 2024). The theme of Black History Month 2024 is African Americans and the Arts.
The Milwaukee County 4-H Program is celebrating Black History Month with a history lesson and STEM activity about one of Africa's great ancient civilizations, the Kingdom of Mali. You can access the lesson plan here.
At the office we are working on the March 23 Family Learning Day. We don’t have quite all of the information we need to share it today, but watch for it to get posted next week.
Have a great week,
