Do you plan to use CTA buses or trains while you study next semester? As a UIC student, the U-Pass will help you use public transportation at a lower price. A U-Pass is a CTA (Chicago trains and buses) pass. The fee for the U-PASS is $163 (for four months, January 7 – May 13, 2026).
Students continuing from Fall 2026:
You will have the same U-Pass status that you had in the Fall. If you had a U-Pass, then you will get one again. If you didn’t have a U-Pass, you will not get one.
New Students:
You must opt-in (sign up for) a U-Pass If you want to opt-in, change, or check your U-Pass status for this Spring semester, go here. The CTA U-PASS is available for any student taking six or more credit hours.
Last day to opt in: February 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (After this date, you can NOT change your status and ask for a U-Pass. Please opt in this week!)
Pick up your U-Pass at SCE (Student Center East) at the ID office, using your iCard. It may take 6-8 days to receive your U-Pass after you opt-in, so do not expect it immediately, but go to the ID office to get a temporary bus pass. To learn more about the U-Pass, read more>>.

Are you planning to drive to campus this semester? If so, you can apply for parking online here. Once you sign in, you will see the information for students. Scroll down to see the fee options.
Here’s information for parking at UIC. You may need to compare prices. There are 3 choices:
|
- Semester Parking Assignment ($411) - This is a good option if you plan to drive to campus every day.
- Student Value Card ($9 per day) - This is a great option if you plan to drive to campus occasionally (not every day).
-
Daily Parking ($15 per day) - -This is probably the worst choice, but it is paying the daily rate for parking: $15 each day. You can do this without a value card or a permit.

Once you find your classroom, make sure you walk around the building and familiarize yourself with the place: you will be spending a lot of time there! In Addams Hall (AH), we have the Tutorium office (AH 105) where you can find the Tutorium front desk—this is where you can ask questions about anything related to your studies or your life in Chicago. We have classrooms in AH 104 and AH 110. On the second floor of AH, you can find the nearest restroom, hallway to Taft Hall (TH), the African American Culture Center (go say hi and admire art that they usually have there), and also a small room with a microwave to heat up your home lunch.

Tuesday, January 13th, is late placement day. If you see new classmates in your class that'll be the reason. Be sure to make them feel right at home with a warm welcome and suggestions on helping them adjust to their new, exciting life at the Tutorium. Perhaps look up an article about late placement in the doc and “simply” include it (I know, nothing is simple)

On Monday, January 19th, there will be no classes because of Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. Kick back, relax, and enjoy your 3-day weekend! If you are interested in participating in an event to celebrate this holiday, take a look at the MLK Commemorative Day event at Chicago History Museum here.
