One-Credit Electives
Registration for January Term opens on Tuesday, October 15th and closes on Saturday, January 4th. Remember that you can still request to enroll in one-credit electives after the Add/Drop deadline as long as there are still open seats and it has not yet begun. You can do this by emailing our Silver Enrollment Services Office at silver.registration@nyu.edu!
Study Abroad
Since practicum internships resume in J-Term, students considering studying abroad during the same time period must contact their Faculty Advisor and Practicum Instructor for approval.
Once approved, you must fill out a Required Hours form. More information can be found in the Student Manual (pg. 52).
Elective Options
Cross-School Registration
This policy allows students to take social work related, graduate-level classes at any of the NYU Schools to fulfill your elective requirements.
Independent Study
If there is material not covered in an existing course, students are allowed to substitute a three-credit elective or a one-credit elective for either a traditional or research independent study. Full details in the MSW Student Manual (pg. 19).
Auditing an Elective
Students may audit one elective course during their time in the MSW program but can only do so after completing their required elective credits or registering for their remaining elective requirements.
Withdrawal Deadlines
The deadline to withdraw from any Fall 2024 classes is Monday, November 25th. After this date, it will not be possible to take a leave of absence or drop a course. You can also review the Withdrawal and Refunds from Courses policy (p. 29) for tuition and fee information.
