Whether you are an aspiring entrepreneur or seasoned business owner, creating a solid business plan is one of the best ways to evaluate your goals and strategies. And while your business plan will be uniquely yours by representing your individual aspirations and business style, there are specific components you should include.
|
-
Executive Summary. Think of this as your elevator pitch and include your business name and structure, the names and high-level biographies of your leadership team, an overview of the services and/or products you provide, and the basic financial outlook for your business.
-
Company Description. Your company description is where you can share your business’s mission statement, goals and target markets, management and operational plans, and organizational chart. This will not only create a clearer vision of your company for investors, but it will also define the roles, responsibilities, and expectations for yourself, your core team, and your employees.
-
Marketing, Pricing, and Research. Next, provide your marketing plan, your pricing strategies, and any competitor analyses you have done. Provide an overview of your start-up and/or expansion costs, operating costs over time, and plans you’ve developed to address any potential roadblocks, including unexpected disasters. Having strong marketing and financial plans will help you recognize and avoid any potential pitfalls, increasing your potential for success.
- Supporting Documentation. Finally, include supporting documents in an appendix. These can include resumes of owners, market research, contracts, lease agreements, advertising materials, intellectual property agreements, and any other document that will provide potential investors and your core team a broader, more complete, picture of your business.

Starting in 2025, entities listed as active with the PA Department of State (DOS) on December 31 of any given year must file an Annual Report and pay the appropriate fee through the DOS online filing portal. The Annual Reports replace the requirement to file a decennial report every 10 years with DOS. The annual reporting requirement is separate from and does not replace the Certificate of Annual Registration that must be filed by restricted professional LLCs, Limited Liability Partnerships (LLP), and Limited Liability Limited Partnerships (LLLP).
The fee for the new Annual Report is $7 for business entities and $0 for non-profit organizations. The annual deadline varies based on Business Structure:
|
-
Corporations (for-profit, non-profit, domestic, and foreign): June 30
- Limited Liability Companies (domestic and foreign): September 30
- All other domestic and foreign entities: December 31
|
Filing types that are not required to make Annual Reports include: fictitious names, general partnerships that are not limited liability partnerships, authorities (all subtypes), name reservations, land banks, financial institutions and credit unions, name registrations, trademarks, insignias, and marks used with articles and supplies.Â
|
DOS mailed letters on January 22, 2024, to all Commercial Registered Office Providers (CROP).
DOS is currently preparing for Annual Reports and needs to have the correct contact information on file for the business. Notice of Annual Report requirements will be sent via the email address provided. DOS will not be mailing individual notices to the CROP address for the entities required to file the Annual Reports. You may email your contact information to the DOS at ra-corps@pa.gov or complete the section found on the letter that you received to confirm or update your information. If you have any questions, please call
717-772-2709.
