Another Arkansas "Lost" Plant is Found

Back in July, ANHC celebrated the rediscovery of broadleaf bunchflower (Veratrum latifolium) in Arkansas and its removal from the “lost” plant list.  September brings us more good news, as another missing rare plant has been found, this one not documented from the state in more than 60 years. Click here to discover what plant has been found.

Millions of Dragonflies Migrate Each Fall

Migrating monarchs are so lovely and welcome that people pay a lot of attention to them, but they are not the only insects that migrate.  Millions of dragonflies also make a journey south each fall.  Massive swarms commonly follow the passage of cold fronts. Watch for them now on light breezy days in the early afternoon, before thermal updrafts lift the insects out of sight. Click here to learn more.

Prescribed Fire Workshop Held at Camp Robinson

As this enews issue arrives in your inbox, ANHC staff members are participating in the Arkansas Prescribed Fire Council’s “Prescribed Fire as a Management Tool” workshop at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock. Held the last week of September, this annual workshop focuses on training land managers about prescribed fire’s importance and correct usage. Read more about the workshop and prescribed fire on the What’s New section of our website.

Scheiman Attends Pollinator Workshop

ANHC Grants Coordinator, Samantha Scheiman, recently attended a Pollinator Workshop at the Dale Bumpers Small Farms Research Center in Booneville. The workshop was sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA): Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), USDA: Agricultural Research Service (ARS), and The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation.

The purpose of the workshop was to educate the public about pollinators and help farmers learn about funding for pollinator habitat on their property. Learn more about this workshop on our What’s New page of the website.
